Baby in the sun

My DD is 7mo, a winter baby! Today has been the first day we have had the opportunity to enjoy the sun. However, it has made me realise I have no idea what clothes to put her in! Atm she is in leggings and a tshirt, as am I. Does she need a sun hat all the time? Is she ok sitting in the sun or should she be in the shade? Sun cream? I'm clueless I've spent so many months wrapping her up and keeping her warm I've not really considered what to do when the sun comes out

DS1 is eight months, so quite similar situation. I'll be interested in what people say.

We went to the beach on Saturday outside of midday sun hours. He was covered in lightweight clothing, with sun hat and children's factor 50 and in the shade...

Hi. As long as she's not in direct sunlight she should be ok. However if there is any chance she will be in direct sun for more than a couple of minutes she needs to be fully covered by her clothes and/or sunscreen. You can get cream suitable for use from birth but you have to hunt for it... 7 months should be ok for most 'baby' sunscreens, but check the label.
Yes to a sunhat at all times while outside if there is any chance she will have sun on her, will protect her eyes as well as skin.

To add to that, it also depends what colouring she (and you) have. Blonde & red hair people are much more delicate. If in any doubt, be careful & cover her up, babies can burn very quickly.

Definitely a hat all through the summer... IF you can get it to stay on! Otherwise, try to keep them covered and out of direct sunlight as much as possible.

Well I am very olive skinned, don't really need to worry about burning etc. I'm shocking with sunscreen myself as I don't burn so kind of forget (I know I should wear it even if I don't burn). My DH is fairly fair skinned and needs to be careful in the sun. Its hard to tell which one DD takes after.

Gosh, need to get into town asap to get sunscreen and hat, got sunglasses but not a strap for them.

Got a few light cotton tops she could be in.

We've just been out in the garden and she loved it, I kept her in the shade though.

My ds is 8 months old and I was wondering the same thing! I've got a sun hat and sun cream but does he need sunglasses?

Hat and whole bodied suncreamed up, even if she is in shade !!!!!

All babies need abit of sun, but try to stay out of direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm.....

Even in the car, baby will need sunhat and suncream as the sun thru the window can still burn baby

Oh gosh I hadn't thought about in the car! Won't she get hotter with a hat on though? I've bought some screens for the windows so hopefully that'll keep a bit of the sun off her.

Ill have to get into town asap!

People with darker skin/hair still need to protect themselves against the sun. Anyone can get skin cancer, after all.

I would always have a sun hat on a baby/child and use sun screen or clothing to cover the rest of their body. Don't forget to cover hands and feet as well.
