Baby grobag- what to wear?

Hi everyone.

Am about to start putting my 5month old DS in a grobag and was wondering what to put on him underneath.

My room is currently 18-20 degrees at night.

The recommended guidelines for a 2.5 tog grobag is a long sleeved vest at this temperature. This doesn't seem very much although he is not really a cold baby.

What do you guys put your babies in?

As 18-20 is at the top end of the tog rating (at 20 the suggested tog is 1) I would put him in a sleepsuit or pyjamas, no vest. If he feels warm you could either change to a longsleeved vest or move him to a 1 tog.

I've been using them 18 months now, and DD usually just wears a sleepsuit or pyjamas and then whichever bag the temperature suggests.

I always try to go for the cooler option, overheating is never good, and she lets me know when she's not warm enough. I also check the back of her neck when I go to bed - if it's damp I change her down to a lower tog/out of the bag altogether. I do this because I've found that the temperature in the room can change between their bedtime and ours as the house cools down, but also the room can get warmer with additional bodies in it.

Hey - what we did was long sleeved vest then grobag - then in the night when it's cooler you can always pop a long sleeved t shirt on over the grobag. Or vice versa you can peel a layer off if needed without too much fuss. When our dd was snoozy she didn't even notice. Def err on the cooler than overdressing side. We cosleep now and DD is perfectly happy in small vest and babygrow without any bedding at all. If they're cold they will cry but if too hot they just sleep X

I use just a sleepsuit if it's warm, and a bodysuit plus sleepsuit during the winter when it gets colder during the night. When it gets hot in summer (ha - optimsm!) I'll use a low tog and just a bodysuit as needed, which is what I did for ds1.

My room temp is 21 to 22 and we use a long sleeved vest underneath a 2.5 tog. This seems to be just right, never too warm. She does get cold hands sometimes, but her head is warm, so I just leave her as she is.

I love the gro bag, means she doesn't kick her covers off. We have just moved from co sleeping to her cot all night and she likes to be snuggled up in it, I think because she is used to being snuggled up to me. doesn't stop her waking up though

We have just changed to the 1tog as realised ds was waking as hot.
When he was a baby we used to put him in a long sleeve vest and grobag however now he hangs out more just before bed and in the morning before getting dressed so he now wears pj's under his grobag. The pj's stop him getting carpet burns on his knees when playing before bed! We found pj's a lot easier than sleepsuits.

I've just moved from vest and babygro to just a long sleeved vest. DD is in a 2.5tog but co-sleeps so gets a little warmer.

Once it gets warmer I'll pop her in a 1 tog with a long sleeved vest.

Currently, 2.5 tog grobag with vest and pyjamas underneath. Will switch to 1 tog when it gets warmer, and some nights will do without the vest, and when really warm will just be vest and grobag.
DS does generally prefer to be cool, but one extra/less layer in bed doesn't seem to make much difference to him.

Thank you so much for all your advice. I think I will go with the guidelines and put him in a long sleeved vest. Definitely better to try and not overheat him.

We're moving him to his big cot this weekend so think the grobag will be ideal. He's growing up so quickly! Hope it goes ok and all that space doesn't freak him out!
