Forgotten how to potty train!

Feel like I should start DS2 (2y8m) with the old potty training lark but seem to have completely forgotten how to do it. DS1 was only trained about 18 monhts ago but I really can't remember how I did it! Blush
Started today and DS2 has done 3 wees on the carpet, a couple of wees and a poo in his nappy while we were out and refused (threw a wobbly) every time I suggested he sat on the potty or toilet.
Staying in the house for a few days is not an option as I have to take DS1 to and from nursery every morning but DS2 does have to be sorted out by September as that's when he starts nursery.
Should I leave it a while? Is he completely not ready? Any help gratefully received! Smile

Hi Tommy!Have just successfully potty trained ds2 who is 2y9m.Took about 5 weeks and has only been in last 5 days that we have got to grips with poos!We decided one weekend to start and first off chose some exciting "big boy"pants that he was keen to wear,so we were off! What a disaster!!!No joy that weekend and i was all for going back to nappies but dh said to stick with just pants for 1 week and see where we were.Felt it would confuse ds2 if went 1 to other. In a week we were doing really well, loads of praise if in potty and ignore if not.He really hated being wet so it didnt take long.Good luck:)

thanks yummymum - was beginning to feel a bit like Milly No mates here! Grin
He has the new Thomas pants that he loves, we have stickers and chocolate for bribes, we have 2 potties and a seat thing for the toilet (although he likes the idea of standing up to do a wee like his big brother) but he doesn't seem keen.
Think tbh, I'm very lazy and can't be bothered to try harder but he also doesn't seem to have any idea about weeing on the potty, nor does he care about being wet (or having a pooey nappy)

Maybe hes just not ready yet?My ds1 was trained so quickly when we started that i got quite frustrated with ds2!When i said it took 5weeks that was about the 3rd time of trying. We had had several gos earlier in year but it was clear he just had no idea although he loved wearing pants.Although to us september seems quite close it is a long way away in terms of potty training and maybe as the weather gets warmer he might be outside with no pants and will become more aware of what hes doing.I have to say I found pottytraining one of the most stressful things re toddlers!!

Thanks - I think I will leave it til half term when hopefully the weather will be a bit more reliable. he's really not showing any interest and I think I'll just end up getting more stressed if I try now!
