Feel like s**t, 1 yo pulled a radiator cover on her

I can't believe I have been so careless. My 1yo pulled a radiator cover on top of her whilst I went to make her a drink. Rushed her to a&e and she's fine albeit a swollen eye lid. Just can't believe I wasn't watching her, it could have been so much worse. Have pretty much everything baby proofed like tv attached to wall and gates etc but I just didn't see this coming but should have been more aware. Dh is not talking to me and is very angry and I just feel like a complete failure to her...

Ah Daisy, it does feel bad when they hurt themselves but you can't watch them 24/7. Don't beat yourself up; just be thankful she wasn't really hurt. We have had accidents which would not have happened if I or dh were in the room but I believe you have to make things as safe as possible and then get on with the things that need to be done. Hope you can find a way to forgive yourself and your dh stops making you feel bad.

Your DH is being a twat. Accidents happen. DD pulled a metal dining chair on her head the other week whilst her 5 year old sister was sitting on it.

You can baby proof a home to your hearts content but the little buggers will always find a way to injure themselves somehow!

Agree with Kryptonite. I had to snap a friend out of this trauma recently (I am a mum of two). Kids hurt themselves now and then. Sometimes they are preventable accidents and sometimes they arnt. Some things we see coming - that's why we have stair gates etc bit other just catch us out and we learn from it. When your child hurts themselves repeatedly be use you did nothing to prevent it happening again then that's when there's a problem. Here is an example; a friend's child pulled a hot drink down his chest once and got burnt. Then he did it again and again. Not acceptable - one off accidents where you take action - don't beat yourself up

Aw don't be too hard yourself - these things happen when little ones are determined to explore their environment and have no sense of danger - you just can't watch them all the time or anticipate everything. You have done nothing wrong at all - dh just got scared - people get angry when they're scared, he will snap out of it. No harm done so please please don't worry - you did the right thing and got her seen to.

Your DH isn't speaking to you? That's a terrible reaction to a relatively minor injury. You'd ruin your life trying to keep them safe every second!

Can't believe your dh is being such an arse. One day it'll be his watch when it happens.

When ds was the same age he pulled a small book shelf on top of him while I was on the loo and dh was getting ready for work. At 18 months he fell right from the top to the bottom of the stairs when I was momentarily distracted and ds wasn't looking where he was going. He was fine on both occasions, though I felt awful.
