New Parent to be, suncream for newborns

Right, I have my first baby due in 4 wks, and i know it will be hot and sunny in those first couple of months (hopefully) i know ideally my baby should be out of the sun and covered up, but if i do go out and can't guarantee baby will be totally out of the sun, can i apply suncream to its delicate little skin?? Or should i stay out of the sun alltogether?

you put a muslin over the pram / buggy

you park it in the shade

and you stay out of the sun

a few minutes in the sun will do a newborn good so long as it isn't between 11 and 3

I don't think sun creams are recommended for under 6 months are they?

Personally I wouldn't put sunscreen on a newborn either; you'll be fine turning the pram away from the sun if parked, or using muslin/cellular blanket/shade-a-babe if walking towards sun. Baby should be OK moving from pram to car etc if unprotected. I think suncream would be worse for their skin than judiciously timed but unprotected airings in the sun iyswim.

I agree, no suncream. bits of sun while you are out and about (going to car etc) are good for the baby. Judicious use of muslins should keep her in the shade (keep a couple of safety pins on the hood of your pram). What I WOULD buy though are a couple of screens for the car.

my SIL has one of those 'protect-a-bub' sunshades and it's brilliant. they are £25 in \link{http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/bruhome/brutravel/brutravelpushchairs/brutravelpushchairsaccessories/brutravelpushchairsaccessoriesraincovers/211028\toysrus } or places like \link{http://www.practicalkidsdirect.co.uk/index.php?p=ecom&pid=1\this}.
