Hi, can I join in? Newbie mum to 16 day old. In disposables atm but have bum genius elemental for her. Trying to decide when to switch over (or is that pluck up courage)
Any advice on getting started? Thanks

NappyHappy · 13/08/2013 20:17

Do it now! And until you are sure which type to go for buy/borrow several types. Ooh, and if you are on FB there is a page called pre loved cloth nappies and accessories which is fab. Congrats on your squishy! There may be a nappy library in your area too.

rrreow · 13/08/2013 22:22

Yep take the plunge! As long as you feel up for the laundry, there's no reason to wait. Bumgenius have a nice snug fit on newborns (in my experience), so you should be fine.

Congratulations Remembering i met a mum of a 16 day old at feeding group this morning, you didn't go to one and meet a mad lady with a 9mo at all?! Just try it, day time only if that's less scary. Remember you're saving a tenner a week :o

NH did i tell you? The WN lion is currently helping my friend's 2yo potty train :)

R will have been out longer than he was in on Thursday, he's so big now compared to the other babies! He used to be the smallest even among the ones his own age!

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 13/08/2013 23:56

Cool! I hope they do the trick. I need to get some training pants for Bear Grylls wannabe. Hmm how long have they been in training?

R is big I think, he looks bigger than ds3. Even though he is in the right age clothes he still looks small.

How are them pesky teef? We've 2 more coming. Again in random places. Is he back sleeping better?

RememberingMyPFEs · 14/08/2013 00:49

Thanks! I will give it a try tomorrow and see how we get on. She's a feeding monster right now (12-16 feeds a day) and so LOADS of nappies - I may have to alternate til I get in the swing and get more nappies if its all going well Smile
I'm using bamboo breast pads and wipes already.

Purple, 'twas not me today but you sound like a great person to meet!

PurplePidjin · 14/08/2013 00:54

A month or so, she's just 2 so they're in training pants plus wrap to contain accidents. Teens are through but sleep still needs to sorry itself out.

Some bastard is digging the road up outside my bedroom window Sad

OP posts:
rrreow · 14/08/2013 10:43

PP, how long does it take to break in a woven sling?

Most second hand ones seem to sell for only a tad less than new price, so I'm considering buying new so I can get the exact colour I want. Intimidated by the stories of them needing breaking in though!

PurplePidjin · 14/08/2013 12:10

They're just a bit stiff to start with, not as easy to use. Breaking is easy, just use it, braid it, sleep on it, make the fibres move :)

OP posts:
rrreow · 14/08/2013 13:25

PP I see your workmen digging up the road and raise you a person playing bagpipes outside at 2am!!

NappyHappy · 14/08/2013 15:03

How do you braid them? I saw one the other day braided and it looked ace.

The RnR arrived today! I barely noticed the extra weight. Ds3 didnt protest at being put in it either! And it burns extra calories wearing him! Grin

Bagpipes? Were they pissed?

PurplePidjin · 14/08/2013 18:24

Bagpipes? Wtf?!

Make a loop at one end, put your hand through and pull up another loop. Like a crochet foundation chain.

Wearing is awesome for core strength :) although I've taken up kickboxing to lose weight prance around pretending I'm Buffy

Cool! You'll be buff in no time then! How are you finding it?

Have you heard back from Environmental Health yet? That was just weird.

I've got my fluffy convert coming round later to show me her new squishy and fluff.

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2013 11:06

Love it, it's a really friend club and adults only. When ds is bigger we can all go to the kids one but for now I'm enjoying getting out and being selfish!

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 15/08/2013 13:20

You are being far from selfish. Its good for the both of you to be apart for a bit and good for R and DP to have some bonding time Grin

Mum is having the older 2 overnight tomorrow! So am going to try ds3 in his and ds2's room. Ds2 has gone out with my friend for the afternoon Smile

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2013 16:52

R is asleep before i leave, dp just has to keep an ear on the monitor!

That'll feel like a holiday :o

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 15/08/2013 17:51

She's just told me Saturday night too!! Time to get titch in his room. Sad growing up boy.

New squishies hair is hilarious. thick and sticky up, right up on top.

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2013 18:10

Mohicans on babies are fab Wink

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 15/08/2013 19:52

The eldest and youngest had straight wispy hair and middle'un, his was curly til I cut it. Sad

Does R have a mohican?

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2013 20:03

Mohican and mullet since birth :o the sides are catching up now, reckon he'll be a moptop by Christmas if he doesn't go 'fro!

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 16/08/2013 00:13

Awwe thats a cute but retro 80's 'do (or don't)! Ive not known of many babies whose hair has grown properly! Shock

A 'fro would be amazing. I love them.

Mine have had bald patches at the back from rubbing their heads and ds2's used to get matted from the rocking! Ds3 has started doing that to and its really funny to watch as he kneels on all fours.

Just had my Morning one. I am loving the wool! Have you made any more?

I've stuck the pop ins on EBay, not getting any interest on FB so will do the same worth the 3 Charlie's I've got left.

Did you get to the bottom of the random road digger? That is really odd. Shock Shock

PurplePidjin · 20/08/2013 18:54

I'm about 6 rows into some crocheted ones but never seem to have the time Sad

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 21/08/2013 06:43

Ooh, you'll have to show me a pic when you do.

I need to wash the wool, they have stuff on. Do I lanolise at each wash or just run them through a warm wool cycle?
