Ellaroo la rae size 5. Plus a Didy I've been breaking for the library. Dp has an r+r :)

I just rented a Didymos (size 6 because I wanted rainbow colour not a brown one the 5 came in... ) and also an Action Baby Carrier for quick on/off use.

Love the way the Didy feels really secure, none of the bouncy/saggy feeling of the Kari-Me. Slightly less comfy on the shoulders though for the same reason.

Going to a convention next week for 3 days with Z in tow, so I wanted a couple of options.

NappyHappy · 01/08/2013 09:19

Which carriers do you find quick to put on/take off? And find better for your back and knees?

What convention is it R?

Mini me woke once last night! I let him eat as much as he wanted yesterday rather than me giving him baby portions. It was either that or him sleeping on his front which is a new thing. How were your nights?

Fed, went to sleep around 12am (bad habits, I know!), first feed at 5am, next one at 8.50am!! DS1 was up in the night screaming though around 2.30am, but I mostly slept through that as DH attended to him. I think I was hearing him cry/scream for a good while thinking "what IS that?" and it took me a while to figure out, I was soooo dead to the world.

The Action Baby Carrier is fab! It clips around the waist, then two straps that clip over the shoulders in a cross. Takes less than a minute to put on. The weight is mostly on the middle of your back, which suits me quite well. I cannot have the weight hanging off my shoulders (like with a Baby Bjorn - devil contraption), but my back is fairly strong as long as the weight is not all in one place. I think I'm going to really like this one for use around the house in short bursts. I can imagine it will get a bit more uncomfortable for longer use though.

I'll be using the Didy (basically just a big length of woven fabric) for things like walking, if I know I'm going to have it on for a good while. The booklet with tying techniques is like a novel. I'm so excited though about trying it out!!

It's called Nine Worlds Geekfest 2013 Grin Am a bit intimidated about doing it all with Z in tow (3 days), but I think I will just see how I feel and do as much or as little as I feel comfortable with.

rrreow · 01/08/2013 11:26

Good going on the sleep front NH! DS1 was a front sleeper (bum in the air!) although recently he's preferring back sleeping, starfish position. DS2 is definitely a front sleeper. I've given in and just let him sleep on his front pretty much all the time now. He sleeps so much better and longer that way.

NappyHappy · 01/08/2013 12:34

That sounds RP to me Wink the convention that is. Sounds fun. I had an ex who was massively into role play and all things geek related.

The other 2 slept on their front as soon as they could roll over! Ive got lots of cute pics of them all bum in air Grin now they do that and the half out of bed/starfish position too!

The first carrier you mentioned sounds more suited to me, something to do the school run/shops etc in. Ds1 really drags his feet on school days so its always a rush to get out.

Are you going to the convention on your own?

rrreow · 01/08/2013 13:00

I'm more into the academic side of things. There will be lots of talks and panels about popular culture subjects. And lots of board gaming. Not sure how much I can join actual games, as it will depend on Zephyr. I'll definitely try. There's also knitting stuff. I'm not really into RP although I do play World of Warcraft (well, I did before I had kids..)

You can use the ABC for back carrying as well, up to about 3yo. I can't wait to try it out on J if he'll cooperate!

NappyHappy · 01/08/2013 17:09

Ive had a look at the new prices for the ABC and they're not bad for new but will look on Ebay.

Geek culture seems to be growing of late. Have you ever been to comic con? I think they had one in Manchester not so long back.

Give it a few months and you'll be back on WoW WinkWink

PurplePidjin · 01/08/2013 18:59

Dp luffs his rose and rebellion (keep an eye on zulily) and I've heard connecta are good :)

Thanks, I shall Grin

Thats one site Ive not yet signed up to and I love bargains. Shock

How was last night??

PurplePidjin · 01/08/2013 21:35

I'll send you an invitation so i get a tenner to spend Wink

Same two wakings but cuddled back down instead of fed Hmm I'm going to give it a few more days then start ssh-patting in the cot instead

OP posts:
rrreow · 01/08/2013 22:09

Cuddle instead of feed is great progress!! I think moving away from the feed is the hardest part.

Was going to do some crochet but ended up spending 30 minutes cleaning up mess that DH created by knocking over a pot of arjun cream (bedroom does smell nice and menthol-y now). He was yelling "I need your help! I need your help!" I all but threw Z on the floor to run upstairs thinking something was on fire or J was in trouble or something.. grr. If that happened to me I wouldn't be flailing around like some helpless person who can't clean up something. Hmm

He's going camping tomorrow with J and some friends. So I'll hopefully get some blissful TIME TO MYSELF!! All Z's napping time during the week is spent working, and on the weekend J needs tending to. So it'll be great to just have the house to myself and do some crochet while Z naps.

PurplePidjin · 02/08/2013 08:37

7-4-5:30 Hmm

NappyHappy · 02/08/2013 10:05

Yay! House to self! Always good Grin

7-1 then woke at 3 then fell asleep at 7ish for an hour. Dh swapped with me at 5am. But I let ds sleep for 3 hours in the afternoon so shall start waking him after 1.5. Shock

You're doing bloody great with it WinkWink

Thank you for the Link! Are there lots of luffly things??

PurplePidjin · 02/08/2013 16:19

Charlie Banana and Bambinex nappies, Amazonas and rose+rebellion slings, nice clothes and toys...

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 02/08/2013 17:48

At prices to make you swoon. Wink

Its still reet warm outside, its great but the small things at this time are getting a bit grumpy.

rrreow · 02/08/2013 18:04

Been using the Didymos sling today! The tying is a bit of a steep learning curve (harder than the Kari-me for some reason) but I'm getting the hang of it now (one of them, at least Grin - the booklet is like a novel) and getting a bit quicker. It's also definitely comfortable for walking. No bounce & sag like with the Kari-me. I do have awful upper back ache right now, but I think it was more to do with sitting on a bench seat for a couple of hours and feeding Z while holding him. I hope it was that at least, because I'm really converting to the whole sling usage and want to continue doing it.

Are you back home again NH? That place looked nice. How long did you go for and how much was it?

PurplePidjin · 02/08/2013 18:42

I have camomile teabags. I have a shitload of poundland flannels. I have resealable ikea freezer bags. What do i do next?!

Hi all

I'm assuming this is a thread for mums using cloth nappies? If so can u join?

I have two DDs. DD1 is 22 months and potty trained so just in a disposable at night. DD2 is almost 8 weeks and I have just started using cloth with her. Again still in a disposable over night but we are full time cloth with her in the daytime.

I'm still finding out what we like and am collecting a varied stash of different makes! At the moment prefer pockets but have bought some AIO BG to try too!

So fat so good but someone really needs to reign me in...I feel a bit of a compulsion to get "all the colours"!

Thingymajigs · 02/08/2013 19:41

Hello. Can anyone join this thread?
I'm expecting dc3 in February and will hopefully be back using cloth and slings like I did with ds2 who is now nearly 10 so I've forgotten most of it.
Not a huge amount seems to have changed on the nappy front except that eBay has become a sellers market. 8 years ago if I found a nappy I liked, I would bid and win. I have lost countless auctions in the last week so decided to buy new and resell high like everyone else.
I ended up buying 5 little lambs size 1, 12 muslins, 2 small motherease wraps, a small little lamb wrap and a blueberry small wrap because it was in cow print. Grin Do you think these will do for the early weeks before I move onto birth to potty sizes? I skipped the first 3 months cloth nappying so I'm not sure.
Not much seems to have changed with babywearing either. I ended up with a small business for a short time selling slings, carriers and nappies and can't believe the cost of Ergo's now but they are amazing carriers.
Sorry for the long post.

PurplePidjin · 02/08/2013 20:03

Hurrah, newbies! Welcome to the fluff side, have a Wine Brew or beverage of your choice :o

Llama, all the colours is an excellent plan. I have 15 aios and 4 night nappies and wash every 3rd day :)

Thingy, that's about half a day of nappies, you'll need 10-12 per day then it slows up a bit! I'm about to sell my size 1 fitteds (some bamboo, some cotton) they're well used but feel free to pm me if you like Wink i use aios for day time then size 2 fitteds with wool covers for night. Ds is 8mo and teething, when he's not i get lazy and use size 1 fitteds for daytime as well so i only have to change at breakfast, lunch and bath Blush

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 02/08/2013 21:18

Hello newbies! Cool. SmileYou need all colours. Its a must. I like pockets throughout the day and Little Lambs Bamboo at night with their wraps which I find excellent or Blueberry ones but I can only get a good fit on ds2 with them Blush

The Facebook selling pages are brilliant too!

P, brew tea, soak flannels, wring out and place in bag WinkWink I think you can use Honey in the mix too for any rashes.

We're in the Lake District R, going home tomorrow morning. It was £500 for the week! Obv not paid all at once Shock back home to Sunny Manc, fluff, wipes and my washing machine!!! Saddooooo!! It'll be the last for a long time. The carpets were full of dog hair so Im itching like an itcy thing so Ive fixed the hoover and got most of it out. I love the greenspace in this country and even though we're next to the motorway you cannot tell, hills, fields, trees and wildlife.

The on site laundrette consists of 2 dodgy toploaders so I'd be there 2 days washing nappies. Ive filled just under 1 bin bag of disposable nappies! Eek!

There is hope, NH, there is hope! And sleeeeeeeeeeep!!

Thingymajigs · 03/08/2013 07:35

Only half a day? I had forgotten how much they need changing! I was going to use the muslins as early nappies to avoid bulk in the first couple of weeks along with the Little Lambs which will be easier for DP to use. His work place has already put him off cloth by saying they cause nappy rash and we should use Aldi disposables instead. I might get a couple of newborn all-in-ones just for DP to use so he doesn't get put off with the fiddly two parters though.
So, 12 muslins, 5 little lambs and 4 wraps with a couple of all-in-one's would possibly be enough for a day, day and a half maybe? I have no idea how fast this baby will grow but I don't want to waste too much on the small sizes.
I would love to buy more nappies off you but after buying some last week I've got to be careful with money. I will definitely be asking around for second hand nappies nearer winter though. I've started my nappy stash a bit early. Blush
Oh, I really like the idea of using flannels and zip lock bags. I was just looking at pricey wipes and bags but they aren't really needed.

PurplePidjin · 03/08/2013 07:48

We were every 3 hours to start, now he doesn't poo overnight we change at 6, 9, 12 and 3 ish then night nappy after bath at 6:30.

Totsbots had clearance teenyfits the other day, might be worth checking if they've got any left? I love my Real Easy by Hip Hip Baby (American brand) sized aios. Ds is still in his smalls at 8 months, just about. £6 each from Babykind, although it was months ago now.

How about prefolds?
