PG rated films

Do you let your 3 year old watch PG rated films? If so / not, why?
The reason I ask is that we have been given a PG film (Kung Fu panda 2) and now I'm not sure if DD should watch it. She has seen the first film as it was recently on TV. She is not an especially sensitive child but up til now has only really watched U films and cbeebies!

Watch it first and see if there's anything it is he wouldn't like
There are quite a few that are PG, e.g tangled and when DD earthed that at 3 she didn't like it at all, too scary! We only saw about 5 mind of it
She watched it at 4 and liked it but still found it scary and didn't want to watch it again :)

And to answer your actual question , as a rule I wouldn't show a 3 year old anything other than a U ideally but now I have DD2 she has already seen some as her big sister watched them

Thanks! I guess it depends what exactly they find scary! Good idea to watch it first - duh! Should have thought of that!

Second watching it first.

For what it is worth my then 6 year old ds sobbed at cinema with kung fu panda 2. It was the seen where po is a baby and the village (and his parents) are destroyed. Ds watches things like star wars without problems but different things affect different kids.

It doesn't bother me now as he is old enough that we can then talk about what has upset him and why but 3 is a little young for that.

My 3 year old has watched Kung Fu Panda.I think it depends why they are PG.Apparently films such as Coralie are PG because they are scary so DH won't let him watch them as he thinks they might cause nightmares.Nearly all our DVDs are U.

Take a look on common sense media - it gives reviews for parents - by parents AND kids - roll over the green headings with your mouse and it tells you what violence etc to expect

Thanks everyone. I have had a look at that website bytheway1 and had seen that the recommended age was 6 yrs and that was why I decided to see what Mumsnet thought as well Also, I think it's a US site which sometimes makes me wonder what a wider audience thinks.
Anyway, we will watch it and see what we think and I plan to stick to U films as a general rule. (Even though she loves all 3 toy story movies!)

jetstar - I like it because it is an American site and tends to give a more puritan view of films -

My girls are 10 and 12 now - so we just check on there for any "cringe worthy" or nasty material before watching films with them...

Imdb tends to have a fairly thorough parental guidance
