Started potty training last week and it has gone really well. Completely dry and have now cracked poos too! Unfortunately the way we sorted the poo problem was by giving him a "special treat" but we didn't have anything prepared so dh took him to the shops and bought him an ice cream.

Anyway now he has totally got the hang of it and all poos are done on the toilet but we are having a problem getting rid of the special treat. Have downgraded from an icecream to a jammy dodger but we have literally spent hours on the toilet today trying to earn a "special treat".

I have tried to explain one treat a day but not sure he gets it. What do I do, just ditch it all together and put up with the tantrum? Don't want to ruin things as he has done so well!

Could you buy a special toy like a car or something that he only gets to play with after doing a pooh, maybe a better reward than food and then slowly just phase it out, say give him the car after a whole morning of wees and poohs on the potty, then his special car after a whole day of wees and poohs in the potty and finally after a whole nite, three nites etc!!

Ds totally regressed and I had no idea why - then one day in the supermarket "hey mummy they are Freddo chocolates, if you buy those I will poo in the toilet". Not manipulative - just stating fact. So I bought the chocolates and things have got better again.

No manipulative would have been to ask for one of the many foods he can't have because of his allergies.
