Slipped downstairs with baby

Hi, I have just slipped down the stairs with my 12 month old. He landed on his bum and isn't obviously hurt. He has been upset now for 3 hours and when not asleep won't stop crying. When I changed his nappy he looked as if he was almost re-enacting being dropped when I lowered him onto his changing mat (arms went out - started screaming)

Is this normal, I'm very worried.

I think you need to get him checked properly tbh

He's Perked up - he's not in pain and definitely didn't hit his head. I think it's more I'm surprised he's so traumatised - it wasn't a massive fall. He's just been playing and nearly fell back and went mental (from being absolutely fine) Completely my ignorance but it's just a shock that it's effected him so much (no websites talk about how long they can be upset for/shock symptoms etc)

I would get him checked out properly too.

I fell over a cpl of weeks back outside with my then 5 1/2 month old DD in her sling. Managed to avoid her hitting the deck but she did headbutt me on the way down giving herself a bump to the eyebrow.

She cried for a short while but was fine afterwards. I did ring my Dr who ran through things and said she was most likely fine; perhaps ringing yours would reassure you?

Get him checked out. It could be a fracture that is only painful when moved. Unlikely child is stressed- more likely in pain when does certain movement

I would get him checked as well. It is very easy to damage the coccyx and it may only hurt when moving.

Also even with no injury shock can be dangerous.

For him to still be upset so long afterwards I'd want to make sure.

You don't know if he's hurt. Get him checked.

My dd fractured her leg - I thought it was a sprain as she seemed ok after a while and walked on it - clearly I was wrong.

Hope you got him checked..babies tend to just bounce back if they are uninjured, he does sound in pain :(

Hope he's ok but would always get checked out after my experience. I slipped on stairs with my 2 yr old Dd, she seemed fine after initial shock but took to A and E anyway and she had fractured collarbone :-(

Fractured femur (which in an adult would take 4 months to heal in a cast) still showing absolutely no pain just stopped using his leg (he's not crawling yet so hard to notice) he's laughing and playing away and opening presents (1st birthday today). If this post helps anyone it's that a baby can have a pretty hefty brake and show no signs for the first day or so (he was in his jumparoo after bouncing away) apart from just being a bit off. He's not in a cast as not in discomfort and will heal quickly considering age.

Awful experience but thanks for all your advice - it helped me decide to go to A&E

thanks - we're amazed. he was just beaming away at all the doctors, clapping his hands when they were examining him. Takes after his Daddy, I wailed like a banshee during childbirth and got drugged up to the hilt! Thanks again.
