how old was your DS toilet trained?

my ds is 2.2 and has shown no interest whatsoever in the potty or toilet.
Infact he seems scared of it...not just the potty but his willy too!!
Took him to the doctors but was told he's just sensitive down there, but how will I ever potty train him if he won't even go without a nappy for a minute?

Dear Hazel0,I have 2 ds and didnt even think about potty training until they were at least 2.5.Think girls early learners!Once they were ready there was no looking back. Will be easier in the summer when your ds can run around with no nappy and will realise what he is doing :)

My two elder boys were 3 and when they trained, they were dry day and night straight away because they led us to what suited them. DS3 is 3 in July and there's just no way he could communicate his need to use the loo with us, and I notice that although the younger twoa re the CM's are training she hasn't suggested it for ds3, and she is right. Do let them lead you- it makes for an awful lot less work in the long run.

DS was 2.3.

Girls aren't always early learners ... my dd was almost 3. He's still ever so young, hazel, and if he's not showing any interest then he's just not ready. Give him time and wait until he's ready - it makes life a lot easier for both of you.

secur · 08/05/2006 14:20

DS was 3 and I left it until he asked to have no nappy - when he did it was gone forever, he was dry da and night with almost no accidents and no "poo problems" either.

TBH 2.2 seems very young to me (but that is just my opinion) dd is nw 2o months and I now it will be more than 6 months before I try it with her.

mckenzie · 08/05/2006 14:31

dont worry hazel0. From my experience with DS, I agree with the other posters. Dont rush him or be pressured by friends whose children and already dry etc. DS was nearly 3 when we tried but we cracked it in just 1 day! Honestly. We spent a day in the garden and that night I washed 7 pairs of pants and 7 pairs of tracksuit bottoms but the next day he was perfect. Even did a poo on the toilet in Pizza Hut when i took him there as his treat for no longer wearing nappies. Smile

blueteddy · 08/05/2006 14:38

Neither of my boys showed any interest at that age, hazel. I really wouldn't worry about it, as your DS is still very young.
My DS1 was 2.10 & DS2 is now 3.2 & still hasn't really got to grips with it.

Posey · 08/05/2006 14:49

Ds was 2.8.
I work in a pre-school where we have a couple of 3.3 year olds who still are in pullups and have no desire to use the toilet/potty.

suzywong · 08/05/2006 14:50

ds1 2.9
ds2 2.4

but when ds1 was 2.4 I had ds2 and the last thing I wanted to do ws fanny about with potty training after and em C and over winter in London.

Piffle · 08/05/2006 15:06

ds was 32 mths
He was dry day and night within 2 weeks
It pays to wait :)
At least until summer.... Far easier.

suzywong · 08/05/2006 15:09

yes, very wise, wait til summer

heavenis · 08/05/2006 15:10

ds1 was 3.5 before he was potty trained. Ds2 was 2.10 seemed to get the hang off it quickly. They are all different. It's hard but try not worry too much he is still young.

sarahlou1uk · 08/05/2006 17:38

Just succeeded with ds and he is 3.2. He will now quite happily go to the toilet and wee and poo. They will do it when they are ready and all kids are different. Agree with what other mums saying about waiting for summer. I was going to do that but then I realised I am due with 2nd baby early August and didn't want the hassle!!!

collision · 08/05/2006 17:41

ds1 was 2.2yrs

ds2 is 18 months and I have no desire to PT him but he takes his nappy off and sits on the potty so we play along with him!!

SoupDragon · 08/05/2006 18:35

DS1 day trained 2y 10 months, DS2 a month or 2 earlier. Both were utterly clueless when we tried training 3 months before the successful attempt

Filyjonk · 08/05/2006 18:44

ds 2.4.

his choice, not mine. had no desire to faff about with potties full of pee in the middle of winter, thank you.

my friend dd is not trained at 3 1/2 and she is the most articulate child I have ever met. So don't worry.
