DS going away on school trip and I'm in floods...

One of my DS is going on a long haul school trip for a week and I am scared. I know its a great opportunity and he will get lots out of it, but it's so far away and I can't help feeling worried. I am looking forward to him coming home and he hasn't even left yet. Am i being silly? He has been away with school before and with cubs but never this far. He is going to the US.

Am trying not spoil the mood by letting him see i'm worried.

How old is he?

He is 12. just managed to get him and his brother to bed. brother not going.

Well the US is not a particularly wild and risky trip. But 12 is also young enough to feel worried as a parent - I'm sure I would feel a bit anxious too. We'd feel a bit anxious wherever they were going - it goes with the territory. Where is he going?

Hopefully it's one of those situations where the thought is worse than the deed and you'll feel better once he's actually gone if that makes sense?

Well, look at it this way. You must have made the decision for him to go on the trip some time ago, so you obviously genuinely feel that he can cope and will enjoy it. Hang onto that thought now when you are (entirely understandably!) panicking about your DS being so far away. You are not being silly at all. When they are just about to go, it is so easy to fear the worst. And he's your DS - of course you'll miss him. Just make sure he knows he has to contact you once he's there to say he's got there safely etc and then you can start to relax and look forward to his return! Oh, and enjoy the time with DS2.

you were right once I knee he'd arrived safely I did relax.

DS2 was a treat all week, and I managed to have lots of great conversations with him, without any interruptions.

He wanted to make sure my week was stress free and it was.

That's great! Did he bring you back a nice present or just a lot of dirty washing.

This brought back memorys when my children went on school holidays,the other parents were waving at the coach saying yesss peace for a week,and i was always the silly one all choked up who walked back to the car crying :( and they always had a great time,glad he enjoyed himself
