Hi all,

At what age would you consider it ok to get your daughter's ears pierced? And why?

Am interested to get your thoughts!!

Thanks

Why do you want to know? Do you have a DD, and if so, how old is she?

You might also try the search function, as there have been numerous threads about this in the past and looking at them might help you more quickly than waiting for responses to be posted on this thread.

The summer before she starts secondary school so about 12. Old enough to take care of her ears herself and that age marks the end of being a little girl to me.

Not too keen on earrings on very young girls but appreciate that in different cultures this is the norm.

I wasn't comfortable with it for dd at 12, nor was she. She's been talking about it now, so will take her next birthday (15).

OBface · 13/03/2013 09:23

Giddy - of course if dd isn't wanting her ears pierced at 12 we would wait.

LadyLech · 13/03/2013 09:32

12 would be the youngest I would even contemplate it for my daughter too. Thankfully, she's a gymnast, so having her ears pierced means she couldn't train - so I have a ready excuse for not letting her. I would prefer her to be older than 12 though.

debbie1412 · 13/03/2013 14:21

I think 13 is such a milestone birthday if my dd is not fussed about when she gets them done. 13 would be my choice x

Maebe · 13/03/2013 14:23

Probably about 14. Old enough to really know she wants them, and that they will be painful.

MirandaWest · 13/03/2013 14:26

Not sure. DD is 7 and hasn't shown an interest yet.

What about boys - would this be a different age?

PearlyWhites · 13/03/2013 14:30

My dd's were 3 as will be my now 2 year old am sure people will disagree but I like it I think it looks pretty and so do they.

Whydobabiescry · 13/03/2013 14:35

OP why are you interested in our thoughts? Are you a journalist looking for some easy quotes?

I

OBface · 13/03/2013 15:16

Miranda - for me yes. I'm pretty sure if i had a son I wouldn't take him to have his ear(s) pierced at any age.

caramelcoffeelover · 13/03/2013 17:08

Hi all,

Thanks for your posts. I am not a journalist. I am an ordinary mummy who wanted to hear about English customs when it comes to things like this. I come from a different country, as you would have guessed already, and they tend to get it done much earlier than most of you suggested. I guess we all come to conclusion that provided it does not interfere with their hobbies etc it is probably ok to get it done once they ask. Thanks again for your time!

My daughter got her ears pierced at 6.5. She had wanted it done for a while, the school had no problem with it. She has had absolutely no issue with them and can put them in and out herself

ilovepowerhoop · 15/03/2013 15:49

dd is 9 and doesnt want them done at the moment although a lot of her friends have theirs pierced already. I would let her get them done if she asked. Mine were done at the age of 7.

ilovepowerhoop · 15/03/2013 15:50

p.s. my nephew has a pierced ear - got it done when he was 7
