Hi Ladies

I?m not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes?

So I merrily put my hand up to read a book in my year 2 son?s class, only to find out that I?m also required to do a 10 minute activity related to the book ? arrgghh!!

I have to do it 4 times, with groups of 5 kids at a time. I?m really hoping that some clever person can help me come up with ideas, as I?m struggling.

The book I?m reading is about ?being different? ? a princess who is different and happy being so, and a giant who is different and not happy about it, and who is laughed at by ?normal? giants. By the end he meets the princess and is happy with being different.

I?d like the activity to centre on differences between us, but I just don?t know where to begin?!

Please, please, any ideas would be wonderful!!

Thanks so much in advance

Firstly - Thank you for volunteering :-)

Simplest thing would be a circle discussion about what makes each child different to their peers, to emphasise that we are all different! Child A may be different because they wear glasses, child B for having red hair, child C for having 3 older brothers, child D because they are good at drawing .... get them to make the suggestions.

Or draw round one of them on a BIG piece of paper and get them to write on the ways that they are each different. You can act as the scribe for the less confident writers.

You could put differences on the outside of the figure and similarities on the inside. Or visible differences outside and invisible differences (eg skills) on the inside.

The main point to stress though is that difference is a GOOD thing - you are not giving them reasons to feel self-conscious.

Ah thank you SO much! I love the paper/silhouette idea, that's perfect! Just hope I can do it within the 10 minutes without being too frazzled!!

Really appreciate your help pp.
