Hi new to this board, feel horrible today, its my dd's 6th birthday today and totally lost it with whilst getting ready for school, we were running late (as presents to be opened, visits from granny etc) and needed to get in the car, walk dog etc etc, I started to brush hair and noticed she had emptied half a bottle of my serum in the back of her hair! so i shouted at her and had to wash it out with fairy liqued she started screaming and all hell broke out, wanting Daddy, late for school, drove like a maniac her red eyed, got to school, all her class mates and teacher wishing her Happy Birthday, felt terrible, now at work feeling so horrible for ruining her special day and just want to cuddle her and make everything ok,

Don't beat yourself up, it sounds like you're feeling a bit overwhelmed and the extra stress of her birthday has just pushed you into mega grumpy mum territory. You haven't spoiled her special day, it was just a few hours in the morning and you have the time after school to make up for it. It's obviously up to you how you approach it, but I would just tell her that it wasn't fair for you to be so grumpy on her birthday but putting serum in her hair is not an ok to do on any day including birthdays.

But mostly, don't sit there worrying about how bad a mum you are, I'm sure you are a fabby mum. Focus on what you can do to make the rest of her birthday with you fun! :)

She will be having a lovely day! I remember my old bosses daughter on her 7th birthday tipped a four pint of milk carton all over the floor just as they all had to leave for school/work! All HELL broke loose, and he was upset all day that he'd shouted at her. She had forgotten all about it as she had such fun at school! Lots of cuddles when she gets home :-)

Ah bless you! It is easier to lose it on their birthdays and on Christmas Day I think as you are so wired up to make it a special day, that anything going wrong is harder to cope with. I got very stressed out on the morning of ds's 4th birthday party as I felt I was the only one trying to make sure we were ready on time. As said above, I'm sure she'll still have a lovely day and I hope you were able to stop beating yourself up and enjoy the rest of it too x
