About a month ago, DS started getting rashes around her mouth and sometimes around her nose and ears. Of course we were concerned and kept an eye on it but after a day it disappeared. It happened a few more times before we took her to the doctors.

He asked us the usual questions and an allergy question came up, so we kept a food diary and then they put on her on a special diet to monitor her foods and reactions.

Long story short, and after two weeks they found out milk was the problem, they say it's a mild reaction and slightly strange as she can still eat milk products and have no rashes and symptoms but cow's milk itself whether it's full, semi, or skimmed, brings up the rash.

We've kept her away from milk, like he recommended but she usually has milk on a morning with breakfast, and even after loads of explaining and reminders she thinks she's being punished because we refuse to give her it.

We've tried soya milk, goats milk, even mixed it with banana milkshake flavour but she can taste the difference and hates it. We tried asking the Dr, but all we got was try soya and a list of information.

Can you recommended or think of any other types of milk or substitutes I can try?

Sorry, for the long post.

Rice milk
Almond milk
Hazelnut milk
Coconut milk
Plus all the soy milks taste different so you need to try them all.

MamaBlue4 · 28/02/2013 17:14

Thank you. She likes coconut, so I'll try that one first.

Oat milk is nice.
What about lacto free milk?

Alpro soy is much nicer than own brands in my opinion.

GoldenGreen · 28/02/2013 17:19

If cow's milk products are ok, then might heating up the cow's milk and then letting it cool work, I wonder?

MamaBlue4 · 28/02/2013 19:01

We've tried laco and that went down worse than soy milk. I think it's "taste" that's affecting her most.

Never heard of oats milk, I'll have a look and see what's like.

She can have milk products, but she can't drink the milk itself. We've tried warming it and she still came out in a rash, so cow's milk is off the menu I'm afraid.

Thank you all, for the suggestions!

what age is she? Under 5's arent supposed to drink rice milk due to arsenic levels.

MamaBlue4 · 28/02/2013 19:17

She's 22 months, so I'll avoid the rice milk! That's for the tip.

Poor love, it's hard when they are too young to understand. I don't like cow's milk, and my favourite alternatives at the moment are almond milk or Oatly oat milk.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 28/02/2013 21:47

Almond milk is nice
Kara coconut milk
Rice milk unsuitable under 4

There r also flavored oat/soya milks

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 28/02/2013 21:49

Alpro junior is is formulated for 1-3 it might go down better than just plain soya. It's quite sweet but has been designed so the fat content and nutrient content is more online with cows milk. Might be worth a shot

Okay, we have two winners.

She loves the coconut milk warmed up in her sippy cup for bedtime and likes the hazelnut milk on a morning.

Such a relief to find something she likes, however it may have been a fluke, but she seemed content to drink the Hazelnut this morning, she's not a fan of cold coconut, so I decided to try it warmed up just before I put her to bed and it was a big hit.

Thank you for answering, it's a load off my mind!

Update: A month on, we've finally got the milk issue settled. She has hazelnut milk on her breakfast or a drink through the day, and has warm coconut milk on a night - it seems ds1 loves the coconut milk over semi skimmed, so he now drinks that instead.

Thanks for all those who helped :)
