My 6 month old ds and I have been staying over with family this past week and are going home today. Since we arrived I have seen a steady decline in ds's sleep. His daytime naps have shortened by about 2-3 hours and he has gone from sleeping through the night to waking up at least 5-6 times a night which is more then he did when he was a newborn. Basically I am panicking that this is going to continue when we get home. At my parents house I had a lot of family around to help out with ds if I'm exhausted but at home it's me and him alone for most of the day. I tried to stick to his routine here but the different environment, sleeping arrangements (we are cosleeping here but at home he sleeps in his own room in his own bed) and the number of people and increase in noise. My question is will he go back to normal when we go home? How can I help this along? Please gone me hope?

I think he will be just fine. If it' only been a week I think he will be happy to back in a familar environment. It may take some time though. I wish you luck :)

Same happened to me over the summer when we went on holiday - my DD even decided to refuse solids!! Everything did settle down once we were home but it took a bit of work.

Thanks for the replies. Any practical advice on how to get ds back to his routine? My main issue is the waking up at night as he sleeps in his own room. Last night he woke up 4 times. Prior to our visit he was sleeping through the night from 7pm to about 6am. How do I get that back? I have gotten his daytime sleeping back on track but what do I do about the nights?
