Hi have been reading through some of the threads about nappies and vinegar is often mentioned - what dos it do -where do you put it and when - i've only ever used ecover liquid/powder on my totsbots.

a good slug of it in the fabric conditionor drawer. softens the nappies up and helps get rid of smells.

occasionally you should rinse them in white vinegar if they get hard. also occasionally you shouild rinse them on a high temp to strip all detergent that'#s left over in them. i mean about once every 6months depending on water hardness

mine are quite crispy but i though that that was cos they are generally line dried - will try vinegar next wash.

Cherylynne - vinegar won't work miracles, but I do notice a difference if I don't use it. When you say line dried, do you mean outside? Leaving them out in the rain will also soften them up a bit.

just noticed this thread- I was just going to ask the same question about my crispy nappies!
Does it have to white vinegar (is that spirit vinegar?)
(just searching through my cupboards and can only find malt, red wine and balsamic vinegars - needless to ay I won't be using that!).
Are there any other ways of softening up crispy nappies.

tumble dry for a bit softens nappies too.
And umm it's only white vinegar in the fabric softener draw that works.

They've stopped stocking white vinegar (which I think is just distilled malt vinegar) in our Tesco, so I use value malt vinegar, which seems to work just fine. Asda do the cheapest white vinegar that I've found though. Unless you buy it in 5l bottles from a pharmacy or something.
