What age to get DS a trike?

I want to get DS a trike for his first birthday but DH likes the models that are suited to older children better and reckons we should wait until his second birthday. How much use did your LO get out of a trike between 1 and 2 years old?

Rare that they can pedal until 2yo or older, so I would wait.

DS was given this trike by my dad for his first birthday. One of DS's best ever presents. He still uses it now at 2.5. Probably only used from about 14/15 months but depends very much on the child. If your DS has been walking for a while then this would be perfect.

That is an indoor trike btw. Wouldn't go with outdoor trike til 2nd bday at earliest.

We got DS one for his first birthday, it has a handle on it to push and you can disengage the pedals until they can reach them. DS preferred being on his trike instead of being in his pushchair. He's almost two and hasn't yet mastered the pedals yet though.

Same as PP. I got my DS a smart trike for his first birthday. The pedals are disabled at the mo and I push him along. He LOVES it! We try and go out on it every day but if the weather is terrible I push him around the house instead. So much nicer than being strapped into a pushchair every time we pop out.

My DD got a trike for her christmas when she had just turned 2 with pedals on and she can't reach them yet, I wanted to get her a balance bike but she was too small for it even on the lowest saddle setting. Our local softplay has a couple of the wheelybug type push along with feet which she loves so I would take him to a shop like toys r us or similar so he could try different ones out and see which is best.
