EBF - 13 day old baby. Do I have thrush?

Right boob engorged. DD not able to latch onto it.

Just noticed that DD has what looks like might be thrush in vulva, but not on tongue.

I'm on antibiotics for 3rd degree tear, and can't tell with loss and infection whether I have thrush.

How do I get DD to latch on to right boob? Do I have thrush. Do I need to go to GP?

Thank you.

Can your DD latch on if you hand-express a bit first? Might be worth a call to NHS Direct.

My DS hated the right boob and would not latch on sometimes. I held him so his legs and body were wrapped around my waist rather than my tummy so he didn't know it was the right boob nemesis boob DS has thrush that he has had since birth (he is 2 months) I treat it with bicarbonate of soda, im not sure why it wont go away but it won't. It hasn't so far effected breastfeeding at all.

I would try expressing a bit to relieve pressure and then try the rugby hold as suggested by previous poster. Nipples are often bright pink with thrush and often there's a sharp stabbing pain that lasts through the feed. Not nice. Antibiotics are a risk factor. If you continue to have problems try nct breast feeding counsellor or gp but I found it v difficult to convince my (old man) GP that it was anything more than standard sore nipples.
