Terrible nappy rash ... what can I do?

Somehow DS managed to avoid nappy rash ... not a rash to his name in his whole life so far (he is 6)
And up to now DD has never had it either ... although she is much more sensitive to stuff than her brother and does get rashes on her body with some stuff (penicillin to name one)
Anyway, I am a bit cross with DD's creche because on Thursday she came home with what was clearly an 'old' poo in her nappy ... I tend to change her as soon as she has done one as she gets a sore bum if the poo is in contact for too long (unlike DS who was able - if I let him - to run around for ages with a stinky bum and it never affected him)
The 'old' poo (maybe an hour or so on her bottom) has given her a red raw bum Sad ... she is in agony, poor love ... two red and weepy spots on each cheek about the size of half a 10p piece) ... what can I do?
I have obviously binned the wipes and am using cotton wool and water to change her nappy but that is a drama as she is screaming and writhing Sad but I have to clean her don't I? I am then putting a bit of sudocreme on her to give her some protection from her wee and the next poo ...
Anything else I can do?
The last two mornings it seemed improved but as soon as she does a poo it gets worse again ...
Help!

Hi Ghosty, I've not been online in a long while are you still in NZ? If yes then you may know Curash powder or if not plain old cornflour, I would clean DD with warm water with a drop of olive oil in there... always worked for me and mine!Smile

Hi mum22inNZ ... Smile
Thanks for your reply - yes I am still in NZ (Auckland), where are you based? Did you used to have a different nickname?
I have heard of curash (I think I got a sachet of it in my Bounty pack) - is it a powder? I will go down the the pharmacy and find it - I think a powder would be good, would probably dry out the weepy bits maybe?
Thanks for the olive oil tip ... will put a drop of that in the bowl of water next time I need to change her
Smile

Hi, yes I think it was firstimer, was a couple of years ago thou! have just had my second he's 4 months old now... We live in the Bay of Islands - Yup you would have got Curash in the bounty pack I swear by it - luckily DS no problems so far..definately perfect for the weepy bits - when its better I use Zinc and Castor Oil to stop a rash coming as its prevents the contact of wees and poos! - you can get it on prescription from the doctors (then its freeWink) otherwise in the supermarket.

Ah, firsttimer ... I remember you Smile ... you were pg with your first weren't you ... when I was pg with DD IIRC? DD was 2 at the beginning of Feb - how old is your DD now?
Wow, with a DS now too - you didn't waste much time Wink ... 'good on ya' as you kiwis say Smile!
Thanks for the tips ... as it is Saturday I will have to go to the supermarket (pharmacy closed, not urgent enough for $20 at after hours docs) ... but I will see what they have ...
Smile

Mum22inNZ - I found some Curash at Foodtown ... DD was much happier for me to change her nappy and put that on than touching her skin with sudocreme so thanks a billion Smile
It looks like good stuff - seemed to soak up the weepy bits immediately

Hey mum22inNZ Smile
24 hours of Curash and she is sooooo much better Smile - most of the rash has gone and it is now just the two localised weepy spots that are drying out nicely ...
I can't thank you enough SmileSmile
