Am I doing it right? :( Cot to Bed

Last night was my 2 yr olds first night in her own toddler bed from sleeping in a cot.
I sat by her bed, read her a book and then said "its bedtime now"
She kept sitting up and I kept telling her go to sleep. After 5 mins she lay down and went to sleep. As soon as she was asleep I came out of the room. I was sat at the side of the bed with my head down while she nodded off
She came running into our room at 6:30am.
Is this ok what am I doing???

In the beginning, I tried leaving my dd straight away, post story and cuddle.
That didn't go down so well, so then I stayed for about 15 mins til she was almost asleep. Now we've progressed to me staying 5 minutes for story, cuddle then I lay her down and stroke her face before leaving.
I still have to go back in one or twice to la down and resettle though!

Well naptime was interesting. She literally screamed
Blue murder. Got in such a state We had to give up. No nap time today. I think im going to play with her and the bed this afternoon. Get her more used to it x
