i can lend a tots bots size 2 with medium wrap to try if she wants?

expatinscotland · 28/04/2006 20:26

hmmm. what are wraps? is that something we have to buy as well?

MrsMcFreaky · 28/04/2006 20:26

www.thenappylady.co.uk gives great advice about all the different kinds of cloth nappies and has loads of information about how to use them. They sell nappies too.

Totsbots bamboozle are worth a look- lovely and soft.

Cannot imagine why your washing machine would smell Shock

wraps are just a posh word for plastic pants really!

not all nappies need them, but the ones that don't (stuffable nappies or all-in-ones) tend to be a bit more expensive anyway... so it evens out

misdee · 28/04/2006 20:29

expat, how big is your dd? do u want to try one as well?

LeahE · 28/04/2006 20:35

I don't rinse them, and our washing machine does not smell Shock. And believe me, if it did smell then my mother would have let me know about it.

misdee · 28/04/2006 20:37

mine smelt yesterday but that beause i left towels in it overnight Blush

a quick hot soapfree wash and a dash of vinegar sorted it.

picnikel · 28/04/2006 20:40

I dry pail the wet ones and put dirty ones in the bidet (never thought I'd be grateful for a bidet Grin) with hot water & tea tree oil. Washing machine smells fresh as a daisy.

Expat - I could lend you some wraps that dd has grown out if you want.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2006 20:46

Hmmm. I don't know what DD2 weighs, b/c I haven't seen the HV since she was 8 weeks, but she's got a fat Buddha belly and wears size 4 disposables already (she's 5 months by calendar on 10 May).

Those all in ones sound nice to try, I guess.

babaworshipper · 28/04/2006 21:08

My 2 year old is rarely in disps (smug emoticon!) but when she is she fits size 4. I would say medium or large wraps, poss medium cos your 5 monther might skinny up a bit once moving.

Fuzzibuns are fab for quick drying and quick changing, expensive up front but good resale value. Actually know I think about it I must flog that one I have lying around, I never remember to use it always use bumbles and motherease wraps (airflow). I also use a woolwrap at night (disana) small is less wet and less pee smell in morning.

If you have no outside drying and don't want to tumble too much tots bots would be a pain you would need quite a lot cos they take ages to dry same with sandys and motherease one size. Any all in one takes donkeys to dry too. Stuffable nappies like fuzzies are good cos the outer drys in no time and you can use allsorts for stuffing. Think they might be cheaper in US too if someone could post them to you.

babaworshipper · 28/04/2006 21:11

Expat could lend you a fuzzy with stuffing if you want? I'm in Edinburgh by the way. Actually I have terry squares, wraps, bumbles, a minki stuffable and a tots bot in my collection if you want to have a look.

jabberwocky · 28/04/2006 21:12

FA, my dh was never convinced. I had beautiful, unbleached, organic cotton ones that never got used Angry Just decided it was a battle better left alone.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2006 21:15

Baba,
That'd be ACE! I've never seen one up close and personal, I just saw a blurb about the programme here in 'The Edinburgh Evening News' and w/one baby and one still in training pants, it gets dear even w/store-brand disposables.

DH is willing to give it a bash. Anything to save a few bob.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2006 21:16

Hmmm, jabber, have you flogged those already?

(expat is making list of all the things for Mom and Dad to bring across when they come over for the summer Wink)

babaworshipper · 28/04/2006 21:22

Expat no probs, email me at babaworshipper @ hotmail .co. uk and we can arrange to meet up.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2006 21:24

Will do, baba! Cheers :) If you see something coming thru from 'kaperkaillie', it's me.

lilstarry1 · 28/04/2006 21:37

My DP wasn't convinced, so I sat him down and showed him just how much we were going to spend on disposables a year (rough estimates) then showed him how much re-usables were going to be (I brought all mine second hand, I also benefited from Freecycle and car boots!). Suffice to say he was surprised and pleased! I also mentioned that once we have them we won't need more ... so if we have another baby!!

As for the smell, HA. I tell you what DOES stink, a pile of disposables in a bin on a hot summers day! Get a good nappy bin (air tight lid) and you're sorted!

My DP takes responsibility for the night time change, he can now change our DD (12 weeks) into a reusable at 2 in the morning when he's half asleep in the dark! You can always put the nappies together so all he has to do is put them on, no harder than a disposable and if you get it slightly wrong you don't have to start over with a brand new nappy!

picnikel · 28/04/2006 21:45

At this rate we could set up an Edinburgh nappy-swap network. I've got some small Sandy's and motherease wraps.....

Nemo1977 · 28/04/2006 21:54

machine doesnt stink
Nappies for £50 maybe at a push if you use ebay or second hands but dont know if they would reimburse for that.
During summer/now I dry on line which takes a day. One wash every 2/3 days. I have tons of wraps...probably wayyyy too many as I love the designs. I also have about 20 nappies which I use on DD part time apart from overnight[only because we were given a ton of disposables and I mean a ton as presents!!] Will be keeping my nappies for my final baby whenever that is.

Expat if DD is around Hs weight then you are looking for nappies to do around 13lbs. Probably either best with one size nappies or totsbots size 2 applix as they can be used as a one size.

Nemo1977 · 28/04/2006 21:54

sorry not size 2 applix..meant nippas

babaworshipper · 28/04/2006 21:57

Small sandys eh? email me picnikel and we can show expat the world of nappies!

mmm nappies! No 2 is on the way and despite having loads of muslins and a few teeny 40cm terrys, not to mention the birth to potty bumbles I keep looking longingly at teeny nappies on kittykins.

jabberwocky · 28/04/2006 21:58

Sorry expat, they're already gone. Too bad, I would've been happy to send them over.

picnikel · 28/04/2006 22:07

See Saw always had an Ok stock of cloth nappies but I haven't been there since it moved to Broughton St - they stamp the receipts so the council/LEEP give you your money back.

babaworshipper · 28/04/2006 22:10

I think See Saw is where I got my little ewe terries. Kittykins receipts also accepted by Edinburgh council.

Only prob with wifey in Seesaw is she can't really see past tots and they do take ages to dry even with a dryer.
