Narrow escape - a bit shaken

Put ds down for his nap. Heard a thump. Went up to investigate and found him sitting on his window cill saying 'Mummy, I'm stuck'. Thankfully on the inside of the window...

His room is on the second floor, with a 10 feet drop below, onto our conservatory roof. Had his windows replaced only a few weeks ago as the old ones were so dangerous I insisted on changing them before he came out of his cot (he's 2 3/4). The old ones swivelled open from the bottom and had no locks, so he could easily have fallen from the cill. New ones were locked and tilt inwards.

Am just so relieved I changed them.

Yup heart was deffo in mouth.

Know what you mean Hausfrau, that's why I kept him in his cot until we got the work done. It's bizarre but the reason I got the windows replaced was that I kept thinking about Rod Hull (the Emu guy). He was killed when he tried to fix his TV ariel. He went through the roof of his conservatory.

my parents still tell the story (some 36 years later) of waking up in a hotel room several floors up to find that I'd climbed out of the cot, was sitting on the windowsill, holding the open window by the catch and swinging it to and fro...

used to think it was just funny story, but now that I have dd I can imagine how heart stopping it would must have been

Sorry Hausfrau, didn't realise I was breaking bad news!

Crumpet, bet you put some white hairs in your mother's head that day...

didn't know about rod hull but I know Eric Claptons son fell out a window (hotel or apartment, not sure?) and died. Good for you edam for getting your windows changed!
