What things do you live by? Tips on raising toddler & baby this method? I have a two year old and 8 month old. I like to think I'm parenting this way. Some days when it's a bit of a stressful day I sometimes get a bit worn out and think an I doing this right?! Especially when I have repeated myself to my toddler and she's being very cheeky! Results in her not listening still and me raising my tone

My golden rule of toddlers is - never argue with them! You can never win because at the end of the day they are not logical and are never concerned about 'making a scene'.

Instead I ignore, distract, change the subject, move on to something new, carry on as if they are doing what I asked, praise them for doing what I asked just after I ask and just before they refuse - often they will take the praise and do as asked!

I also never ask them to do something if I can not follow through, e.g. if you are changing the baby, feeding the baby, etc do not get stressed asking them to do something and them ignoring you. Just wait until you can follow through your request.

However never beat yourself up about not keeping your calm. Parenting is exhausting with parents under all sorts of pressures. If you do something you are not proud of apologise and forgive yourself quickly, plan what to do next time to avoid the problem and move on.

Thank you for these words! I think that's half the battle, dd is very forward and switched on, sometimes I think I may expect too much. (Only on the bad days it seems.) all I want is to not raise my tone. Like I usually don't.! It's just those manic days where everyone is over tired, moody and run down!
