Nappy rash or yeast infection?

How will I.know the difference?.Feel a bit daft taking dd to the docs.for nappy rash but it isnt reducing, and is.more.round her vulva than her bottom.

Anyone have any advice?

I took DS to the docs for nappy rash a few weeks ago. The doctor told me that generally if the rash is in the creases it is thrush and if it is just all over the skin then it is normal nappy rash.

Problem is my DS's was bloody everywhere! As it was in the creases the doctor gave me canesten it didn't clear it very quickly though so I think it was normal nappy rash and needed timodene.

If it is not clearing I would go to the doctors - even if its not thrush, the doc can give you cream for the normal nappy rash.

I am taking DD to the GP with bad nappy rash this afternoon - HV was next to useless, and just shrugged, but pharmacist I spoke to later suggested just using a very thick barrier cream to cover the rash and allow it to heal itself.

we did use canestan with hydrocortisone for a few days as it looked very fungal initially, but then it got worse and was bleeding more, so now just using the barrier cream, and hoping the GP can help!

If nappy rash isn't healing buy some thrush treatment over the counter canestan or non branded treatments.

No need to see Gp. There are over the counter products that can be tried before you need to see the Gp.

I think go to gp before buying otc stuff. If nothing else if it gets even worse it is at least on record you have done the right thing. I read about an awful case where someone's baby was taken into care after ending up in casualty with very severe nappy rash. Advice about health is what GPs are there for. When mine had awful blisters she certainly did not make me feel like a time waster!

DS has had thrush in his nappy (also had it in his mouth so was pretty sure already). Main differences were that instead of being around his bottom, it was all around his penis and testicles. It looked like he'd suddenly developed an aversion to his own urine iyswim. It was also slightly raised, dry, shiny in places and a bit scaly. GP diagnosed thrush on sight. I went in because I needed stuff for me too as I was bfing and had it in my nipples too. It cleared up v quickly with the right treatment.

Im going to take her to the drop in centre tomorrow as it isnt shifting.

It doesnt seem to even bother her, not in pain or scratching but its very red and lots of little indiilvidual lumps.

Went for this very thing with my DD this morning and our GP said the same as a previous poster that if it was thrush it would be in her creases. He gave her zinc and caster oil ointment to act as a stronger barrier.
Definitely get her checked to just make sure it's nothing more sinister.

Not in her creases just all over the front.

My dd had thrush rash at the front and it was not in creases just really red raised fierce looking rash that refused to go and I thought it was odd as a.she never suffered nappy rash usually and b. It wasn't around her bum. Hv said straight away thrush wen I finaly took her and I felt awful because had I known I would have gone sooner. Canestan calmed it in about a day or two!!

Been up to the Walk In and the doc thinks she may have had nappy rash but that its become infected. Shes prescribed Fucidin so hopefully that will help.
