Doll instead of pulling hair out?

My DS is 20 months and is a hair obsessed when he is tired or wants to settle him himself to go to sleep . He prefers mine as its longer however his own will do if he can't get anyone else's . He can be quite rough and I have caught him a few times pulling his own hair out when he is tired .
I am really going to start trying to sort out his sleeping next week as am having to lie on my bed with him for hours to get him to go off ATM a d I need my evenings back .

I was thinking of some sort of doll with flowing locks to help him settle himself and fulfil his hair twiddling need without my head being present . Does anyone have any good hairy dolls suggestions

Does he already have a comforter toy to cuddle and play with at night? The doll idea may work but actaully any toy that can be pulled about and fiddled with or just cuddled would proably suffice if he doesnt already have a comforter toy. Some kids have "blankies" or other items with buttons and flaps to fiddle with rather than dolls or stuffed animals, but they all fulfil the same function of helping them to settle to sleep.

Agree with gourd you could try something else first - I am sure you are very safety conscious and tbh I'd worry about something that could disintegrate and choke.

I think the prices are as eye watering as the hair tugging! but if you are set on a doll and can detach anything he might choke on, something along these lines might help.

My DS (18mo) has a habbit of doing this to my hair and I find it quite cute. However he doesn't miss it when he is in his cot alone as he has a Slumbertag 'taggy' blanket, sure others are available. He loves it and fiddles with the tags around the outside as he does with my hair. Also my friend had a hair puller, she had bald patches for quite a while, she bought some silky gloves (on ebay I think) which were like ladies evening gloves....really long up the arm and attached toghether so they passed round her daughters back (under pj's). These worked well too. just another couple of ideas. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried a taggie blanket, that was a no go. Obviously not as nice as pulling and twiddling hair!
He is actually getting really obsessed about my hair now and insists on being near me so he can fiddle with it. I think I am going to have to concentrate on stopping his obsession as I think it's becoming one now. He has spent the majority of today trying to climb on me so he can get my hair.
