how do you change nappy of a very wriggly 8mo

DS is so delighted he can roll round and reach out to things he will not stay in the one place long enough to remove or change his nappy resulting in three changes of clothes throughout today either because he got messy whilst rolling around or because I haven't managed to get his nappy on properly meaning he has leaked through. I have tried giving him something to hold and play with but he wants to hold it whilst on his tummy which doesn't exactly help.

With great difficulty my DD is a nightmare she's off like a flash and when I say 'nappy' she shakes her head and takes off! No tips here!

Same here! Not just nappies, any change of clothes is the same. Dd very quick and squirms everywhere. Toys don't work. The only thing I have found is giving her the pack of wipes or tube of bepanthen to look at (both of which she is obsessed with for some reason) then going at lightning speed!

Giving something to hold, or knee/elbow on chest

If he can weight bear try changing stood up, maybe against a table or holding cot bars, I can change my 14 mo twins without them even noticing now!

This isn't pretty but it gets the job done...

Sit on the floor with your legs apart, knees bent. Lie baby under your left leg (assuming you are right handed) with his legs in front of you. Clamp your knee down over his chest gently but firmly. Change nappy at speed of light, release! Hope that makes sense!

I used to put my ankles over ds2's shoulders and pin him that way. In fact I had to do it this morning - he is now 2 and I'm 38wks pg!

That's funny, the only thing that will keep DD occupied while being changed is the Huggies wipes packet. I think she likes the picture of the baby.

I change the nipper sitting on the floor and with one of my legs (gently, I'm not a monster) lovingly pinning her torso while changing the bottom half! It was the only way I could change DS on occasion and DD may have the "wrestling hold" nappy change treatment soon as well.

By all accounts, I didn't even crawl until I was 15 months, let alone walk, and while I must have been a heavy and unreasonable pain in the bum to lug about the place, I must have been lovely to change.

I used cyanarasamba's method. DS was a complete nightmare to change from about 8m, tried distraction etc, didn't work. Got vvv quick at nappy changes!
I'm sorry to say it never improved. He was as keen as me to potty train though thank goodness, has been out of nappies day and night since 2yo, for which I am truly grateful.

Have you tried changing him under a baby gym arch? This worked with DS sometimes.

If you're struggling now just wait till it's a wriggly toddler who can get up and run away!

I normally change my 16mo on the couch now, against a pillow and give him something he's not normally allowed, like the tv remote.

As time goes on though, you learn how to change them on their front, standing up etc. You just have to. :o

Use Pull-ups.

DD was a wriggler and I put her in the Pamper's Easy Up when she was 6 months. So much easier than faffing around with tapes and to take off you just rip them down the sides.

I used easy-ups at that age - so much quicker. I found I could go back to normal (cheaper!) nappies after a while though.

I used to do dd in a leg-lock type hold as described above at that age. She's 16 months now and likely to stand up and walk off. I stopped the pinning when she started to cooperate a bit more no actually it was when she learnt to shout no, ow, stuck, help at the top of her voice and I felt too guilty to carry on

I laughed at the description of pinning the baby down with a leg whilst changing him....brought back memories!

I used to do that if indoors, otherwise on my lap. Basically i would hold ds ankles firmly &lean on him gently with my elbow. I hated pull up type nappies but definitely with a go.

sharon I'm in the same boat-currently looking for somebody to sponsor my new business venture-changing mat with shackles.It's going to be multipurpose so I'd be able to cut the nails,take the wax out of the ears and pull all the bogeys sticking out.

DH had to deal once with shitty nappy-before he managed to do anything DS stuck his hands down his bum,heels down in the same nappy and rolled over to his tummy very pleased with himself while I chuckled outside the bedroom pretending to be out of the house
