Parent facing pushchair - how long for?

dd is 14 months and we're still parent facing. she likes it we interact, talk, she points to things and we discuss it. when i've tried putting her forward facing she cries.

at 14 months is it time to go forward facing? my mother has made a big deal about it and now I'm doubting myself.

I don't think there's any reason to turn her forward facing, especially since she prefers facing you. They learn a lot from face to face contact and it's not like she can't look sideways. I think your mother needs to back off tbh.

i turned my ds round at 17 months as he kept tantruming about going in the pushchair and i dreaded taking him out he still has the occasional tantrum in there but as i cant see him i am less stressed out by it

If I could've fitted the Bugaboo Donkey in my house and car, then my 2 year old and 9 month old would still be parent facing!
But with a 16 month age gap I had to get rid of by lovely Cam for a lovely BJCM double but I really miss parent facing. My toddler always sits half turned around to talk to me.
Don't listen to your mum, when your DD is turning around to see where she's going is the time to switch to forward facing.

I think i alternated from about 9/10 months. DD was walking at 9 months so in her opinion was a fully fledged independent human and would not tolerate the restraints of the buggy unless she could see the world! But when it came time for sleeps we always turned her to face us to avoid overstimulating her.

Thank you everyone, abbyfromoz dd was walking at 9.5 months and I think sometimes am i maybe trying to "baby" her by keeping her parent facing bceause she seemed to be a toddler so early, but then she likes seeing my face and always looks behind me when i've tried forward facing.

maybe I'll leave it another month and then try again...tbh i think i would miss talking to her in her pram as well. Taking her to MIL in the morning and collecting her is the only quality time we have together 5 days a week.

Do whatever suits you and DD.

I would have kept my DS facing me for longer but he kept straining his neck round to see where we were going! Can't quite remember what age that was though. He is 2.3 now and we rarely use the buggy, but when we do he still tries to chat away to me even though I can't really hear him very well, and then I feel rude if I don't stop every few paces to try and hear what he is saying to me! Can't win

DD stayed parent facing till I converted her buggy back to pram mode for her little brother.

I kept DD parent facing till she was 3! I do have a Stokke so she was very high up and able to see lots of thing easily. We could also chat - which is good for their development and almost impossible if they are facing the other way.

DD still rear-faces in the car at 3.8 and will be until she outgrows the carseat we have (which won't be for a long time).

If you are happy and DD is happy then don't change anything. I often wonder why parents and other people want to change things that aren't broken?

Ds has just turned 2 and I still put him in the parent facing buggy (when he lets me!).

DD was never parent-facing in a buggy. She was in a sling until she hit 7 months, then she alternated sling and buggy til... well, we still do at 20mo but it's a ratio of 10 buggy trips to 1 sling trip now because she's a lump and I have a lousy pelvis.

DD never liked parent-facing in the buggy. I guess all babies are different!

i changed her to forward facing today....she didn't fuss but we didn't really talk much which i missed and she was quiet....want to chnage her back.

My 18 month old son still rear faces in the Cameleon most of the time. His 3 yr old sister is quite often on the buggy board and they like to pull faces at each other.

I've only started forward facing him more often in the last few weeks as he just noticed that he can reach up and pull the brake handle, which is v hilarious for him but v tedious for me!

I have never put our main Pushchair facing away it just feels so unnatural. Unless your DC is unhappy then I would stick with what you like.

Dd and all her mates who had buzz buggies remained rear facing until they got too big for those buggies.
I don't understand why she wants you to turn her around?

DD was 2.5 when we turned the seat round to forward facing.

Do what is best for you & your child.

I never did change my DS1 to face outwards because like your DD he loved facing me and interacting and would cry if he couldn't see me. I never saw a problem with it. DS2 is 13 months and I have just changed him to face outwards now because he started to whinge because he could see me but not get picked up! Both very different so do what you need to do for your DD.
