how many oz of formula

just wondering how many oz of formula milk is acceptable for a five month old. my son takes 8 oz every four hours and i have started him on solids twice a day now. never know how much food to give him really. think he would have more if i offered him more.

Depends on the child really. At 8 weeks my ds1 as having 8oz every 2 hours, he was a little milk monster.

8oz at 5 months sounds fine to me. Is he still waking at night for a feed as well?

Wrt weaning, are you giving him puréed food? I'd say give him some in the morning after his morning bottle, then maybe again in the evening after his bottle again. Always milk first before solids as they need the milk more a this age.

And as you're weaning before 6 months avoid foods with gluten in them.

My DD turns 4 months on Sunday and takes 30oz (give or take) a day.
She has it usually over 4 or 5 bottles with the last bottle being larger or the last 2 being close together. For example 4 x 7 oz + 1 x 2oz or 3 x 7oz and 1 x 9 oz

Under 6 months it entirely depends on the baby and their weight. There should be a guide on the formula carton of how many ounces to feed your baby according to their weight.

As long as you roughly follow the guideline and baby's weight and height centiles are in proportion, I wouldn't worry.

If you are offering solids its best to do this an hour after milk.

Once Lo is 6 months he should be having 20floz of first stage milk per day until he's one according to the NHS guidelines.
