Appearances matter

Heard Steve Biddulph on Woman's hour this morning with Kate
Figes. Can't believe he is claiming to be an expert on raising girls when he dismissed the importance of appearance. Was going to buy this book to help me with 13 DD who is so obsessed with her appearance that it takes her 2hours to get ready for school. Just ordered Kate Figes book instead as she seemed to be talking more sense.

In what sense did he say appearances don't matter? That they shouldn't matter for a healthy individual? That it isn't actually about appearances but about perception of appearances? Or that no girls care about appearances?

Would need to listen again to be sure. It was a bit of a throwaway remark at the end of the discussion and he didn't really expand on it but his dismissive tone put me off buying the book. You can get it on podcast and see what you think.
