Why do I always leave assignments till the last minute? I have got 3500 words to write about the influence of schools on children's social and moral development - before Monday. I have been procrastinating all day and now I have finally sat down I don't know where to start.

Sometimes I wonder why I ever started this course

Write out an eassy plan ...
Intro - will discuss A, B and C
Middle - discuss A, B and C
Conclusion......
If you have a framework its usually easier IMO

Are you all better now Sarah? (sorry I know that's OT but not seen you here for a while and Lou said you'd broken your leg/ankle?)

Use this thread to motivate you - I expect you already have a plan for the assignment? Break it down, post here what you're going to do and report back on progress. We'll egg you on.

Sounds like a fascinating topic btw!

Hi donkey
Yes I'm fine thanks.....it was a back operation that i had to remove a herniated disc, but it;s all goood now.

Well I've written just over 1000 words today. Yesterday I achieved nothing, I was the queen of procrastination.

I've talked about the development of self esteem and am now going into a section which links this with motivation. Then I need to talk about aggressive behaviour and bullying and look at how this can be linked with self esteem, motivation, family context and parenting styles. After that I need to look at the implications for teachers and consider the developmental stages of moral reasoning, as these will affect the strategies that teachers put in place to manage difficult behaviour.

Blah. all that still toe write by tomorrow. Sorry for waffling. I want to try to get most of it done my tongiht so that tomorrow I can just proof read and edit. Think it might be a long night.

One of these days I will learn that it isnt a good idea to do essays the day before they are due....mind you having said that, I have done the same twice before and I got a high distinction (>85%) on one paper and a distinction on the other. BUT the difference was that then I knew what I was talking about. I'm blagging this one big style

OK enough waffle, onwards and upwards

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Have reached another halt. Think I will go and play with DD for half an hour whilst thinking about how to link the next bit together.....

I'd love to write an essay on that topic. Mind you I take a pretty dim view of the influence of schools on children's social and moral development gets on hobby horse Grin

I'm sitting here with an essay title on phonological awareness and dyslexia in front of me. If I finish it I can go to India with dh on work trip nextweek, but still can't get motivated. I've done all the reading, but finding actually writing so hard these days.

Just some ideas, but how about looking at the hidden curriculum, the development of school councils etc, use of circle time etc, if secondary, look at the role of the form tutor (my school used to ask tutors to take their tutor group out on termly socials etc).

As for Moral development, also look at the role of RE and PSHE - again secondary.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

SiP - good luck.....(reminds me of typing up MA dissertation at 3.00 in the morning....Grin)

7up · 24/04/2006 16:34

how did you do sarah, hope you got it done on time

sarahinphuket · 24/04/2006 17:35

Phew.
Finished. Just. 1130pm here in Thailand, which means that in my time zone I am within the deadline, even though in Australia it shows up as being submitted a day late.

Anyway, 3600 words. The first part of it was, I think, not bad - but the 1000 odd words that I hashed together in the last couple of hours were not so good.

But who cares. Its done, dusted. On to the next two now....if I start now then I might not end up leaving it till the last minute.

All I have to worry about now is waiting for the results.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement :)

I'm going to have a beer then go to sleeeeeeep
