Having a go at potty training my ds who is 2 3/4 and I THINK is ready. But what do you do when the wee goes in their shoes? (Decent clarkes ones) Should I have thought about this before.....the're off at home, but obviously when we go out he needs to wear them Grin Anyone know if they'd wash? They don't smell YET, but worried that if I leave it they'll really pong in a few days.

Me again. Just got back from my mums where ds started to wee in his pants but then stopped and asked to go to the toilet!!! Progress!!! I think he's getting the message (fingers crossed!!!!!!!)

Hi :) Well done with all your successes sarahlou1uk - bet you are really pleased with your ds :) We too are improving...pretty much every time we put him on the potty, he will do something (and get his reward!) I do feel that it is me that is more "trained" at the mo though, as I need to remember to take him every so often. I would really like to be able to trust him to ask, but I guess it wiill come in time. We have had a few poo accidents - has done it in his pants THEN asked to go - any tips? He isn't a terribly predictable pooer. I am pleased with the wee that he seems to have some control now, in that he can go if he wants to (ie most times we take him) and he seems to be able to hold it if he doesn't want to go...just need him to take more responsibility. Do you just think it's a case of practice makes perfect?

Apart from nightime, we've had no napPies on since Wed, and I'm determined we're not going back!

Hi ETSmum. Had two wees in toilet yesterday but then a big poo in pants and then told me! Seems poo is a bit more tricky to predict! Had a wee in toilet today but then got playing outside and forgot - resulting in wet trousers and wet new shoes!!! Never mind - he's getting there! Have found Clarks Doodles shoes to be wide fitting so have bought a pair. They are now drying in the sun! Smile

Hi all :)

Saralou1uk - hoe it's still going ok with you. We did rater well today, the only accident being a poo and small wee which he did ask to go for but didn't quite make it in time. I'm still taking him a fair bit, but cutting the frequency to (hopefully encourage him to ask.) Had to laugh as dh got wee on him running to the loo with ds.....prob was we were at a party and dh was trying to subtly asay "think we should go now," with arms strategically folded over wet patch on stomach (I found it v. funny!)

Cat64 - take your point.......you can tell this is my first (and last!) time at this can't you? Grin

Well, we've made a small step forward. I've printed off ds a toilet chart which he gets to stick stickers on everytime he goes for a wee, washes his hands, etc. There are 9 spaces on each line and then a big prize star at the end. He will now go to the toilet and try and wee to get a star. Everytime he does something he can see he is getting closer to the prize. This has worked better than giving him a treat after each success - only so much chocolate he can stomach!! Keep up the good work everyone. Smile

Think we've cracked it! Day 7 and for the past two days he has told me when he needs a wee. We've even managed to poo in the toilet! (sorry if tmi). I found that if I kept on asking him if he wanted to wee, he got upset. I waited until he told me and then we got results. Good luck everybody else.

Leave him in his wet clothes for 5-10 minutes. He will soon learn that it's not nice! Have you tried reward chart?
