My son has about 12, sometimes 13 hours a night. That's not straight through though, he usually wakes at around 1am, sometimes more.

11-12 hours

debka · 14/01/2013 21:37

DD1 was just dropping her nap when she turned 3- so back then, 12 hours a night plus one (or so) during the day.

She's nearly 4 now and has 12 hours a night but gets quite tired.

littlemefi · 14/01/2013 21:37

My 3 year old sleep about 12-13 hrs, mostly sleeps through but sometimes up for a wee or drink of water.

Mum2Fergus · 14/01/2013 21:40

I heard you the first time parsnip lol Smile I was chatting with a chum today who said similar. We (sadly!) are all up at 6:30am of a morning, but DS isnt going to sleep til approx 8.30-9 pm, and doesnt nap during the day. I keep trying to pull bedtime forward but he just doesnt drop off.

DD1 would be on her knees with that, OP.

She slept at my mum's last night and only got 11 hours and was vile this afternoon.

Mum2Fergus · 14/01/2013 21:45

I get nothing but great reports frim nursery, so behaviour grand there...and when we get home he just keeps on going! Ive maintained his bath/quiet time/story time routine going constantly, but he's just going longer and longer...I fell asleep as he read a story tonight!

Whoopsie!, Didn't mean to do that!

MrsBungleBear · 14/01/2013 21:51

My 3 yo goes to bed at 7, sleeps usually immediately or about 15 minutes later and wakes anytime between 7 and 8.

So about 12/13 hours.

No day time nap now.

noblegiraffe · 14/01/2013 21:58

We get 8-6:30 so not that different to you.

wiltingfast · 14/01/2013 22:13

Hmm, I recently puLled bedtime back to 830pm because I really thought our 3yo just needed more sleep. We get home quite late, gone 7 most nights and kids have to be up really around 730. Dh quite relectant to put them to bed before 9 (as he feels we don't have enough time with them) but it was hard to get them out of bed, esp after the christmas break so I insisted and I think they are better for it. So 11ish hrs here.

sleeplessinderbyshire · 14/01/2013 22:16

my DD is 3. she goes to bed around 715 and used to sleep til 7 or so (although usually woke up at least once in the night). The past week or two she's been up before 6 and has been full of beans. She will sleep a bit later if bedtime is later but I like to get both my 2 (3yr and 6 months) to bed at the same time as it's nicer to bath them together

Fuzzymum1 · 15/01/2013 14:49

At 3 DS3 was sleeping 6.30pm to 7am minimum. DS2 at that age was sleeping 7-7 at night and still napped for 2 hours each afternoon.

Sirzy · 15/01/2013 14:54

Ds doesn't nap. He goes to bed at 7 and wakes around 7, however he still doesn't sleep through and can be awake anything between 1 and 4 hours a night

nextphase · 15/01/2013 14:59

Well, my 3.8yr DS seems to buck the trend.
Lucky to get 11 hrs out of him, and thats often with one wake. No nap since 2yrs and a few weeks.
He occasionally will only do 10, but due to illness did 15 hrs overnight on Sat, and a 2 hr nap aswell!

Think its what he needs, as he wakes himself in the mornings - usually around 6, occasionally as late as 7.

knackeredmother · 15/01/2013 15:07

Mine sleeps when I sleep. Literally if I go to the toilet in the night he follows me. So sometimes 11pm - 7am sometimes 10pm- 11am. Will occasionally nap in the day if I am there too. He is the ultimate clingon child.

lolalotta · 15/01/2013 17:29

Between 11 and 12...

Zoidberg · 16/01/2013 20:55

Same as nextphase here, DD sleeps 10-11 hours and always wakes up at least once. She is bouncy from 6a.m to 7p.m.

I used to find threads like this made me a bit down and a lot envious, then I read the book Raising Your Spirited Child and it describes most of DD's temperament, including having loads of energy and needing less than average sleep.

Girlsville · 16/01/2013 22:43

Dd1 hais just dropped her nap at almost 3 and sleeps approx 645 pm to 745/8 am ie 13 hours

FunnysInLaJardin · 16/01/2013 22:48

blimey, DS2 will often sleep 9.30 - 6.30, so about 9 hours! I wish he slept for 12/13 hours. The absolute most would be 8 - 6.30. That is without a nap too and he's not quite 3!

Mind you my DC seem to need about 10 hours sleep with DS1 often not sleeping until 10pm and waking at 7am - he is 7!. Jesus I have spirited children Sad I want placid children!

FunnysInLaJardin · 16/01/2013 22:50

and to get DS2 to go to sleep one of us has to sit outside his room and keep putting him into bed until he sleeps. Without that I wonder would he ever sleep voluntarily? He can quite easily play in his room until 11pm!

duchesse · 16/01/2013 23:06

DD3 (3.4) sleeps 9pm to 7 am.

She's very recently (in the last month) dropped regular daytime naps and now is only tired enough for them at around 6pm, after which she has a grizzly patch during which I seriously consider popping her in bed, then perks up as soon as her papa steps through the door. Hmm Then seems fine till usual 9pm bedtime. Although she went to bed at 8 today after a few days of no daytime naps.
