I have just seen my Internet history from yesterday. Is it a normal curiosity stage for them to look at pictures of women's boobs, "women's birth holes" , "mans penis" ? Am I being niaive not to realise this is what boys of this age do ? Don't know whether to be upset / shocked / concerned.

Shock Did he have a friend with him?

I don't know how I'd feel either, though I'm sure it's normal curiosity. Windows lets you put family safety settings on which should kick in next time.

Are you going to speak to him about it?

poppy2133 · 14/01/2013 21:21

No - on his own. I have spoken to him - doesn't know why he was looking.

I think if those are the exact things he googled it sounds more like normal curiosity about human biology than anything sinister. Have you had any sex chats with him? Maybe he needs an age-appropriate book (with pictures) about sex and bodies.

lechatnoir · 14/01/2013 21:35

Sounds like very normal & natural curiosity so definitely time to get him some age appropriate body/sex ed books & have a chat.

TheNebulousBoojum · 14/01/2013 21:39

You need to set up a separate account for him on your laptop with some parental controls, so that he can use it without being able to access some of the more exotic, graphic and pornographic stuff that's out there.
Natural curiosity is absolutely fine and normal, but do you want him on RedTube?

poppy2133 · 14/01/2013 21:58

What is redtube ? I think I'm more upset as it is another sign that your baby isn't really your baby anymore.

Redtube is full hardcore porn.

Imlostwithoutahope · 15/03/2013 20:13

My dd 8 was searching for similar. I put a safe browser on her galaxy tab which blocks certain youtube videos bit unfortunetly it has a flaw and allowed you access. When I checked the history there was girl's kissing girls, girl kissing boy and naked woman, girl breastfeeding. I was shocked she would want to look at this but my mother pointed out its normal and back in my day we used to do the searching of rude words in the health encyclopedia or libary books.

INeverSaidThat · 15/03/2013 21:22

You should be upset that he has done this but hopefully he hasn't seen anything he shouldn't.

It is a good idea for him to know that you will be checking his Internet history for the rest of his life until he leaves home. You can get software that will Log every site visited and even mail you a daily list. It is best if he thinks you or y your DH or DP are computer whizz'es and he won't be ale to get anything past you.

DC's are curious and their friends are curious..... It is best if they think know that they won't be able to view anything dodgy in your house without serious consequences.

I guess its a worry i agree internet controls should be a must or supervised access only ( i do this as i heard even with controls some porn can come up with even with quite innocent searches such as milking and banging ). You tube is even worse with 18 rated film clips freely available my child was watching clips from the saw movies without me knowing. I would ask other mums from the school if their kids are doing it as it turned out my child had been dared to search out these horrors by a problem child in the class whose working parents let him do anything while they sit at their own laptops all evening.
