Sent my dissertation to my mentor to have a look
she sent it back this morning! I opened it in outlook express worked on it (and saved)for most of the day. Now when i open the document it goes back to the document i received this morning without any of my work!!!
I cried! a whole days work lost!
How can I rescue the work that i saved?

Looked everywhere! in all files my documents could it be, that when your working on it as an attachment although opened, it protected and you cant save it??
It seems soooooo stupid but i had been saving it and it had saved I'm sure then why cant i find the BLASTED THING!!!! or even better why cant it find itself!!!!

Just checked on my computer and if I open an attachment and try to save it, the computer puts it well and truly hidden away... If you went to My Computer and followed then went inside these folders in turn you could try looking here:

C:
Documents and Settings
MAIN (or it might be your name/username)
Local Settings
Temporary Internet Files
OLK30

Or how about sending yourself an email with an attachment, open the attachment and try to save it - then you can look and see what else is lurking in the same location??

NoPearls · 20/04/2006 18:26

Or you could try using the Search facility?

Start
Search
All files and folders
Under When was it modified, set it to today's date
Click Search

Cross your fingers...

How about opening it from the email again. Then save as and see which directory the computer automatically sticks it in.
Otherwise do a search on the hard drive for the filename...?

sharry · 20/04/2006 18:50

Tried those too! no luck
managed to get into a window with recent documents in had all work from yesterday but none for this morning.
I was working on it changing the text that was highlighted from yellow to clear and it changed and saved it as i was working on it?
So why do i think I couldn't of possibly have saved it?

Is it a Word file? Try starting Word, then click on File and it should list the most recently worked on files at the bottom of the menu - although if you have been opening and closing things to see if you have found it, that might not work...

sharry · 20/04/2006 18:59

looked NP, it says dissertation cath looked at 2. can open 1 but not the other presumably 2?
