Hi, just wondering at what age I'm supposed to take my DS for his 1st dentist appt. is it just when all their teeth have cut through? he's 23 months and I know a few people with 2 year olds taking their DC to their first check up

Take him with you to your next appointment (let them know beforehand). He can sit on your lap and the dentist will probably just look inside his mouth when its open. They shouldn't do all the poking and prodding that they do with you to begin with. That way they can see its nothing to be scared about.

I took my DS with me just before his 1st birthday and he only had 4 teeth so they just looked in his mouth when he smiled.

I take my daughter (3) with me and she has been coming since she was a baby. The dentist hasn't managed to see her teeth yet as she refuses to open her mouth, but it's a way of getting her used to the environment and the dentist.

They say they can go from when they cut their first tooth. My lg went at 12 months old the first time. He just had a peek at her two little bottom teeth and gave her a sticker. Just gets her used to the dentist Grin

It's from 3 years old at our dentist. I took my 2 year old along too so she could sit on my lap for my routine check up and I was told off. Apparently they discourage this now as it can create fears Hmm Mind you, the dentist I saw had the bedside manner of a drill sergeant, so maybe in his case it was true Grin

Oh and when I walked in I cheerfully suggested that maybe the dentist would have a little peek in her mouth too. He reacted as if I'd suggested extracting one of her teeth for fun. Perhaps I need to change dentists...

If your DC is a Peppa Pig fan, I suggest watching the dentist episode a dozen million times to put them in the mood.
