Help - tongue tie procedure

Bellaboo123 · 09/01/2013 20:06

Hi my 5 week old had her tongue tie snipped today, came home happy enough at lunchtime but since 4ish has been screaming the house down - she only usually grizzles but she's totally inconsolable. Is this normal has anyone else had any experience of this?

It might be a bit sore but just check her temperature and look inside her mouth to make sure there isn't pus - although it is a bit early for signs of infection. I would give her calpol and don't worry if she doesn't feed as much as normal tonight, and see how she is in the morning. (I'm a GP) x

Thank you - can I give calpol at 5 weeks? She weight 7lb 13oz???

Call the out of hours GP for advice on pain relief. DS had a short period of screaming a few hours after his tongue tie was snipped. We gave Calpol (he was 11 weeks though) and it seemed to help.

He was fine the next day

To get the out of hours phone number, call your GP's surgery and the number will be on the answer machine message

We had a rough day after DS1's tie was divided.
He was fine straight after it was done, but the following afternoon, and through the night was awful. He hardly fed, I got really engorged, and I felt I'd hit the end of bf. Don't know what changed anything, but it sorted itself out again, and I fed to 13 mths.
We tried - both stripped down, and cuddled in bed, hand expressing and cups just to get milk into him, different holds - basically what you'd try to get a newborn feeding better.

Hope your daughter is back to normal soon.

How are things today? Did you try some pain relief? You might also want to post this, or get the thread moved to Breast and Bottle section, some good advice on here already but you may get a few more responses Smile
