London musical for 3 year old?

Hello,

We are spending a few days in london and hoping to go to a matinee show. DD is 3 and has been to a few similar things and we know she will sit for a hour and a half, longer if interval and bribery with chocolate.

Any suggestions for a good show that is child friendly that we would all enjoy? We would obviously abandon if DD wouldn't settle and risked disturbing others.

Room on the Broom is currently showing, am considering taken 3yr old DS at some point.

Lion King, Matilda, Seussical, Shrek?

Check with the theatre bwfore buying as some have age limits

lion king isnt recommended for under 6s IIRC

Neither lion king or Matilda would be suitable for a 3 year old.

The stampede in lion king & dumb as fathers ghost are scary and when I went two 4-5 year olds had to be taken out sobbing

Matilda (though fabulous ) is quite dark and intense at times. A 3 year old would get fidgety. The acrobat & escapologist bits of the story would be hard going

Not seen Shrek though I would imagine its a bit more upbeat. A lot of west end theatres don't allow under. 5s in.

Why would you take your child to something that would scare them? I mean, yes, I'm sure I could get my son to hide in my coat if I took him to the local pub and it all kicked off, but that doesn't mean that it's a suitable environment for him.

Room on the Broom sounds good. But please don't take your child to something that isn't recommended for her age group; she will probably end up spoiling it for the rest of the audience, especially if you're fucking around with chocolates and other sweetie bribes (rustling, passing things around etc.); it's just immensely annoying when people do that.

My 4yo was terrified at Shrek, despite living the film. Dragon coming out into the audience was a step too far.

Personally I was more traumatised by Kimberley Walsh's performance...

Go to the little angel theatre. They have beautiful children's shows.

There are a number of specialist children's theatres that will offer much more suitable and magical theatre for that age group and won't cost a fortune.

The polka theatre in Wimbledon is fab too. We saw 'too many penguins' recently and ds1 (3) was gripped - only 45 mins long, so easier for toddler attention spans, and the theatre cafe is great

ds2 loved the lion kind when he was 5.. I wante to take him to see shrek this year (now 6 1/2) and he doesn't want to as it looks scary in the tv adverts!! so there we are..
might look up room on the broom though..
lion king has started his love affair with the theatre though and we've been to several local productions this year.. :)

I wouldn't take a 3 year old to a musical if I knew I may well have to abandon it at some stage. West End show tickets are expensive, even for matinees. The Unicorn Theatre do lovely childrens shows here. It is very near London Bridge and very easy to get to.
