I have an assembly to do on Thursday based around the theme of New Years Resolution and the idea of making things better. I teach teenage boys in a residential school. I thought I might ask you to suggest some New Years Resolutions that you would think teenage boys might want to consider and I could read out in assembly!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think I would focus on developmental positives, rather than negatives, so avoid stop biting your nails or give up sweets.

Do some exercise every day
Go to bed 15 minutes early twice a week
Try a new food every week
Contact a relative other than your immediate family, so aunt, granny etc, each month
Say at least one positive thing to a friend every day

Daily hygiene measures. Spraying Lynx around the room does not count as a shower.

One decent hot meal with obvious healthy ingredients every day.

Off all screen devices between 10pm & 6am.

Think before you text or speak.

To do one nice thing for another person every day (good Karma comes back to you; this applies to everyone, not just teens).
