Request to work part time

I want to contact my employer to tell them I want to extend my maternity leave and to request going from full time to part time (3days per week) is there a right way to do this? Well ill be telling them im extending more concerned about part time?

You need to look at the flexible working regulations flexi
Make sure you specify the positives the request will have for your employer - they will not be interested in your childcare issues!

Make sure you explain how you can see it working, and also that you can be flexible (hopefully you can, even a little can be seen to be great)
I do 3 days, it's great, but about once a month or so I have to travel and work on a different day - I'm happy to do that, and they seem to appreciate it.
