3 year old ds who refuses to do anything in the toilet

Help!! I have a 3yr ds who is wearing pull ups. He will quite happily sit on the toilet but only when he has already poo'ed in his nappy and we have to flush it away. He then wants to sit on the toilet and read magazines and books. Forget about wee's - when I ask him if he wants a wee he just says "wee'd in nappy." Does anyone recommend a good potty training book? I've seen one in ELC but he doesn't show any interest when I get it off the shelf and show it to him. If I push the matter, he starts to scream and get upset. Has anyone else been in this situation. I'm getting quite desperate now as I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my second and want him out of nappies before his sister arrives!! He also starts nursery two days a week next week but they don't mind if he's not quite dry. I've told him that the other boys & girls at his new school wear pants and not nappies but he's not falling for it. I've even bought special pants that he wanted with Thomas and Bob the builder on to encourage him. HELP - blooming pull ups are expensive. New baby is going to use reuseables.
