Why does my 7 month old scream MORE when I go to him at night? :(

My DS has started waking 2/3 times a night again, I think it must be teeth so hopefully it doesn't last too long...

I put him to bed around 7 and he will be up again at 12am, 2am, 5am and the up for the day at around 8am. So he is getting around 10 hours of broken sleep. I go in and cuddle him when he wakes up, but I swear it makes him more frantic and more upset! Although when I put him down again he falls asleep in about 10 mins and if I don't go in it will take him hours to get to sleep....

Any ideas why me trying to comfort him makes him worse? I used to feed him every time he woke up so I think he may want food to comfort him not his mummy :(

Have you tried not picking him up? He may be irritated at being held when he is trying to get back to sleep. Doesn't mean he doesn't need the comfort though.

When he cried just go in, re-arrange his covers/blankets if needed, stroke his head/tummy that sort of thing, so he knows you are there but wihout the need for you to pick him up.

Thanks, I might try that then. It is quite disheartening cos he usually loves being cuddled during the day!
