How did you know if DC had CMP allergy?

My DS has had bad diarrhoea do over 2 weeks. G
He has been mainly on formula since mid nov, but is still slightly breast fed (and I'm working on increasing it).

I've always thought he reacted badly to dairy when I ate it so avoided it, we flubs that aptimil comfort was better for his severe wind but still not great. We have since changed formula on advice of dr to regular formula (SMa) and it has got worse- on normal aptimil now to see what happens.

The diarrhoea doesn't seem to be improving- should I consider a CMP allergy or is it teething, which I've heard does crazy things?

We can't see a dr until we're home In jan / he seems ok apart from the diarhhea and nappy rash but it is affecting sleep because he poos so often. It's he good to know if to press for testing when we return.

How old is your baby? Where do you live (just wondering about infectious causes). If your baby is very wee please do go back to GP asap. Diarrhea in infants needs properly investigating.

CMP allergy can cause diarrhea. Do you have other reasons for suspecting it?

He's 6mo
As I said only that he used to react badly (windy crampy) when ebf when I had dairy. But we did go through a period of a fortnight when he was almost exclusively ff when he didn't show synptoms.
He seems fine in himself apart from that. He has been in contact with other babies, one of whom had something slightly similar, and the day before we went to a singing class where they share out things for the babies to play with etc. so it's more than possible that its viral. It just connects with the windy crampynrss that I noticed in him before when ebf, which cleared up quite quickly when I was off dairy.

We're out if the uk until after Christmas, and not back home until the 3rd so it's going to be a while before a GP sees him

Cut out all formula and dairy (how much do you bf, is that an option?) that's the only way really to tell although more likely to an intolerance.

Have you started weaning?

Silly question but have you prepared the formula properly? 70C water on the powder (not cooled then mixed)?

Cosmo89 · 23/12/2012 13:05

thanks iggly
No - My supply isn't up to having DS back full time but I'm going to try to get it up to at least 50% in the next fortnight. Wish I'd never stopped now but ahd to work away for fortnight so not a choice on that one.
Haven't started weaning - hes now 6mo but don't want to do it on dodgy gut or is that stupid.
We do prepare the formula properly, though sometimes it doesn't cool for long enough if DS is desperate

Ha! posted under wrong name - I thought I'd ditched this one, never mind

Just wondered if he'd caught a bug that way. It likely that he's just got a dodgy tum i he was ok at first?

My ds threw up pretty soon after having formula for the first time and dd would too. That's how we knew.

My dd has cmp intolerance. I was advised by mw to cut out dairy at 6 days as dd was really mucusy, seemed to work (although lots of poo-pooing from others). I went to 6 week check at gp who said I'd have to eat tons of dairy for it to make a difference so I went home and feasted on cheese. That night dd sounded like a pig, took over a week to get out of my system!

I've not tried it but we have bought some sma soya formula as a just in case. Don't know if its any good but might be worth a try.

DS has CMP allergy, I found out when I gave him a jar of rice pudding as I was off out for my hen party.
I say "a jar", 5 spoonfuls in, his lips, eyelids and ears were swollen, and hives were coming up all over his body.
He'd previously had baby rice with breastmilk, and the jar had only rice and milk, quite a clear cut allergy diagnosis.
His eczema cleared up the week after I stopped BFing too I never thought to cut milk out of my dietBlush.
