My baby is 5 weeks old and today flung her head back and hit the side of it on my top lip quite hard. There is no bruise etc on the scalp. Should I be worried? Is this enough to cause a subdural?

I'm thinking she will be fine and not to worry about it.

Ds2 is always bashing himself off my head, and he fell off the chair onto his head. Makes me sound like a bad mummy. It's usually when winding he head buts. He's on gaviscon for that now, anyhoo what I'm trying to say is its probably nothing to worry about. Ds is 3 months now but has always been a head banger.

Don't panic, if no mark and baby seems fine then no harm done.

A relative of mine fell over holding my 8 week old DD causing her to hit her head very hard on the wall. She had swelling, a big red mark and was screaming.

We called an ambulance who checked her over and said no harm done, she did not even need to go to hospital.

They are not as breakable as they look!

Call up nhs direct- they were great when I accidentally hit dd against the side of a changing table whilst out. They put me through to a nurse who asked loads of questions and then gave me advice. She was fine by the way and no hospital visit needed.

I read somewhere that if a baby is dropped on to a carpeted floor and cries straightaway there is no need to take them to dr or hospital, your babies bump sounds less bad than that so should be fine.

Whoops that should be baby's Blush
