Sorry if this is a really stupid question but are the mince pies you have at xmas ok for children to eat? I've never eaten one myself but have no idea if the shop-bought ones contain any alcohol?

Alcohol cooks off in the baking so is fine, my one yro is still walking a straight line after demolishing 4 today, I am dreading the results from eating dried fruits I might hand him back to Granddad who fed him them

Ah, thank you canyou for putting my mind at rest! 2yo DD is a fan of them too but had a bit of a panic she'd wake up a little fuzzy-headed in the morning Blush Will have to buy some more then Grin

I hope so, as my 19mo DS ate about 4 the other day!

Mil gave dd a brandy filled one by mistake the other day.

She smelt of brandy for a while. Normal mince pies will be fine

Alcohol doesn't cook off in the baking - there's a table somewhere for how much cooking time it takes for booze to dissipate and the 10 minutes that mince pies get in the oven isn't long enough. I'd just read the ingredients.

Hmm I gave home made spiced and rum-soaked fruit filled mince pies to toddler playgroup. They went down really well... The amount in each one must have been tiny though.

I usually put chopped nuts or flaked almonds in my mince pies but omitted those for the toddlers as I dont know if any of them are allergic. Ours (2,3 YO) is fine with nuts but I am aware that nut allergies are fairly common. Didnt even think about the alcohol though.
