Dd is 1.2 yrs old. We both have a stinking bout of cold, very mucusy, tickly coughs. She also has hand foot and mouth. I have been giving calpol. Obviously she can't blow her nose to get the mucus up. Any tips or tricks for getting us throughout this?

Try putting olbas oil (children's version) in a bowl of boiling water and the vapours may help with any nasal congestion. I also keep my DS as upright as poss for his naps (pram?) and tilt the end of his cot up with books. I also rub snufflebabes vapour rub on his back, chest and feet. Have no experience of HF and M though.

I'm not sure quite how recommended they are, but I've found the nasal aspirator really good. Basically you just suck the snot out - grim but effective. You can soften it first with hot water vapour, or having your DD in the bathroom while you have a hot shower. Also you can buy plug-in vapourisers that make the room stink of menthol/olbas oil, that seemed to help my DD. (You are supposed to by new refill pads but I just soak a used one in olbas oil and that does it!)

Also hope she feels better soon. Snot is horrible. This morning I actually had to unpeel my 11mo from her sheets there was that much of it yet another grim thing no one warns you about before you have children!

Thanks - some good tips there!! Unstick from the sheets?!?!?!?! My god!
