Scared of potty or just stubborn?

My 20 month old ds is showing all signs of starting potty training but he just won't sit on the potty or the toilet (with or without a training seat). I got him to sit on the potty for about half a millisecond today with the bribe of watching Nemo but I don't know where to go from here.

Do you think a sticker chart will work and just do it very gradually maybe moving up to a whole second before he is 2?

Anybody any ideas.

I've got this problem, I was going to post today, DS is 27 mths and today took his nappy and wrap off and ran round the house yelling wee-wee, wee-wee and poo but if I ask him to sit on either potty or loo seat he runs a mile.

All this week he's been trying to get nappies off at various times of day but I don't know how to persuade him that he needs to use the potty.

I had tried sitting him on it before Xmas but he got hysterically upset and I haven't dared try since

HELP

DS 2.5 refused to sit on potty until DH offered him half a magic star and he sat and weeed!! We had one week of hell (and bits of magic stars) and then he got used to it, the choc and the praise and the fact that he is a big boy and wearing Thomas the Tank Engine pants from M & S and he now sits freely on the potty. BTW, I have never used magic stars to motivate my children but it worked this time and we only used them on and off for 2 weeks. Good luck!

I thought it was only me who had a child who screamed at the mention of a potty or toilet. DS is 3 in 2 days, will start to train him after his birthday. Will buy in a big bag of magic stars wish me luck!!!

Way too young IMHO

Agree with piffle, not that I'm an expert. 20 months is O.K. to potty train at if the child seems willing but it's very early.

What I would do is forget about trying to potty train and just start him off, with no pressure sitting on the potty with all his clothes and nappy on. Just leave it around and try to make it into something fun with no pressure.

20 mths is too young, but you can leave the potty around so he gets used to seeing it. You could also start reading some toilet based stories to plant ideas in his head!! But IMO you should wait until he is at least 2 to even attempt potty training.
