CC during 18mo regression?

DS is coming up to 18 mo and for the last 2 weeks he has been waking in the night for up to 2 hours. He needs me to sit with him until he goes back to sleep which is far from ideal - I am at breaking point! He does not appear to be in pain as he stops crying as soon as I am in the room. He tosses and turns and seems unable to get back to sleep.

Initially I though it was because he was learning to walk, then I thought he was cold and kept heater on in his room. I have tried to tackle overtiredness (he only naps 45-60 mins) and have been doing 615 bedtime for over a week now.

Friends DCs are going through the same thing so I assumed 18mo regression - the difference is, all their DC can self settle so they just play/chatter in their bed for an hour then go back to sleep with no involvement from parents.

Which is why I am considering CC. Have had no luck in the past as have always bottled it as I hate it so much. But I think this would be easier all round if he could entertain himself and self settle! But I don't want to try it if this is something that can't be fixed - like how I remember the 4month regression. Except he never recovered from that and only fairly recently started sleeping through (about 5 months ago)

Help!

I wouldn't, but then tbh I wouldn't do CC at any age.
