Tips for looking after a toddler when YOU are poorly!

Feeling sorry for myself! DD has given me her bad throat/ cough and all I want to do it curl up in bed, just when she is getting lively. She's too young to sit in front of the telly for a long time (14 months), and nobody is around to take her for the day.
Any tips on things to keep her entertained with minimal input from me?!

Take her to the park for 45 minutes, then lunch, then nap, then let her play with you supervising from the sofa, then a DVD. If you're too ill to manage the park then your DH needs to take the day off work.

Quiet games, colouring, things she can play with without you while you lie on the sofa, things like that.

You lie on the sofa and let her play around you and don't worry a out the mess.

Thanks for the tips. Colouring worked ok for 10 minutes, then I forced myself outside, actually felt a bit better when out. As soon as DH comes back I'm up to bed!

Lie on the sofa throwing choc buttons or raisins or Cheerios whilst she dashes about fetching and eating them.

Ziplock bag thoroughly sealed and taped with blobs of poster paint in. Small fingers squeeze and manipulate bag to blend the colours into fascinating swirls.

Tip out your pants drawer and let her rifle through your undies and put them on Teddy's head.

Play music (again from sofa) and teach her to freeze when you shout STOP! And pause music. Good for traffic/danger training.

Does she like the bath? mine'd stay there for hours as toddlers and I could lie on the floor beside her.

We have a long hallway and when I was ever ill/knackered/pregnant we'd play "Running Cuddles" which is when I'd sit at one side of the hall with arms outstretched and they'd run into my arms. Then do it again and again. I did this recently with a couple of visiting toddlers and it's just the most fun for some reason.

Books? Can you lie on the sofa and read to her.

An excess of Cbeebies or a dvd! I know TV isn't a good thing to overuse but needs must in certain situations. I recently had a baby and haven't been well as had to go back into hospital with retained placenta so when home I have had to resort to playing ds's favourite films to keep him occupied. It won't do them any harm for a few days and it is in their best interest for mummy to get better asap.
